Exclamation Gloss Black Aero Kit (Splitter, Rear Spoiler etc.) - Development Help Needed!

Hi guys.

We're aware there is some demand for a gloss black styling / track aero kit for the G87 M2. We've done a lot of development on this car in terms of carbon fibre styling with TRE.

We work very closely with a German-based Gloss Black ABS plastic brand named ZAERO Design.

We are investigating creating a kit with them for the new M2. I want to get an idea of demand and requests.

If you have a moment, can you guys answer the poll for me and drop any comments below?
  • What parts?
  • What would you budget?
  • What are your "must-haves?" E.g. OEM Mounting Points, low cost, aggressive or OEM+ design

Thanks guys!

I want an MHC style lip that’s not $1500. It looks like one of the best fitting, OEM looking lips. It’s the right thickness without unnecessary angles and flair.

Please do MHC replica

We're not in the business of replicating other designs unfortunately. We know the R44 guys and wouldn't want to compromise that.

From what I am understanding though, you'd like a single piece, clean design splitter right?

No winglets or funny business right?

A smaller front lip without winglets would be my preference. Something less aggressive (protruding) but did add a bit of style to the front end.

I would love to do a front lip on my M2, and the gloss black AutoId one I had on my G42 was pretty much what I wanted. It definitely took some damage, so I have a hard time justifying CF. I would also prefer w/o winglets.

I would buy the TR87 style front splitter & side skirts if they were available in gloss black. Would need oem mounting points & be of a reasonable cost. By reasonable, if they are abs plastic, they should not cost more than $200 - 300 for the front splitter or $300-400 for the side skirts, at most. Abs plastic is cheap.

I would prefer them in gloss black painted fiberglass for $500-600 front splitter and $600-700 side skirts. Or gloss black painted carbon fiber (no exposed weave) for $700-800 front splitter and $800-900 side skirts.

Based on the same aftermarket parts for my other performance vehicles, I think those prices for the respective material is reasonable. Right now, imo, the prices for these parts in exposed cf are not reasonable, especially when you can get nearly the exact same parts on Aliexpress for a fraction of the cost.

I'm also looking for the vs or versus style rear trunk spoiler available pre-painted in body colors. A reasonable cost for this would be in the $250 - $350 range.

This my Z06 with oem aero. Something similar, simple & functional design on the M2 would be great.

Exactly. Something modestly OEM looking. I know that doesn't make sense with the direction BMW is going. Just a clean line, end to end, no height differentiations, no step downs and funky angles. As if it's just part of the bumper assembly. Enough to give the side view character vs a square front that my toddler draws.

1) Front lip: modular such that the center portion can be installed on its own so the lower bumper appears flush with the air ducts bilaterally. Splitters under the air ducts can be added per customer preference.

2) Front grille: similar to the f80 with vertical slats

3) Rear trunk spoiler: tries to replicate the csl duck tail and doesn't have the middle divot

My preference is
Gloss Black OEM+ Front Lip with factory mounting.
Gloss Black OEM+ Sideskirts with factory mounting.

No extreme winglets or angles
Price $500 to $900 to cover quality materials and needed accessories.

OEM+ front lip, side skirts, and rear diffuser will be interesting too.

around $300/piece will be ideal and seems to align with the market price.

1) Thats an interesting idea. My only concern is that it would lead to an odd design when considering the entire splitter. Have you seen the TR87 flat splitter? Would that design in Gloss black be something you'd be interested in? https://autoid.co/products/bmw-g87-m...er-by-tre-2023

2) See feedback below.

3) Interesting, will take a look.

Vertical grilles don't seem to work. I've been trying a number of design iterations and they just don't really work for some reason! I honestly wanted this too, but you'll have to trust me here:

Would you really change a stock gloss black diffuser for another gloss black diffuser?

You're welcome. Other things to consider; with the front splitter, the attachment needs to be solid so that at high speeds the front fascia is not deformed due to the downforce created. On my Z06 above, there is an inner facia brace that the spiltter is screwed into (14 separate screws into u-nuts). There are no screws into the plastic fascia as is common with the BMW splitters.

For side skirts that don't have winglets, that are just flat, I think they should have a vertical flap that attaches to the side skirt & the rear inner fender well (similar to the skirts on the Z06 above). It gives a nice finished appearance vs just a flat skirt sticking out of side.

If constructed of abs plastic, they should have a nice gelcoat finish similar OEM so there is no issues covering them with paint protection film.

This might go against popular opinion but I would like a flat plastic look, similar to what GT Porsches offer on their cars. Hell, the more I look at the M Performance lip, the more I'm starting to like it because it transforms the look on a lowered car with aggressive wheels.

I would want
1. Flat colored plastic
2. Mounting points to stock hardware
3. I prefer something that has some extensions on the sides like the M Performance one
4. Price wise, I would want it to be no more than $900 for the entire kit, so splitter, side skirts, diffuser.
Hell, if Porsche charges $300 for their splitter, I'm sure there's enough profit it that to justify production.

This is a really nice design. I would go for it. It works well with cars with lowering springs and looks like it's not affecting ground clearance.

Would not be interested in this and it doesn't look good. It would be really great if you could convert CSL style and Alphs-N style grilles into gloss black.

I would definitely do it. Currently, carbon diffusers are ridiculously expensive, and there are only a handful of good designs. If you can make something like the CTCarbon has in gloss black that would be really nice

And we need a gloss black/color matched ducktail spoiler too please

Yes in black BUT... For what I'm looking for, it protrudes out too much as if I'm ready to plow snow. It has clean lines with no intricate design and 3 piece easy install, WIN! Just a bit more modest to make it look like a factory option.

The price is also a no go. Maybe 500ish at most.

Realistically, 3-5 months from concept to ship.

Yes, I've seen the ID01 spoiler. In gloss black sounds nice.

In the end, it will all come down to how competitive the prices are. Most people including me are going with the gloss black option because they don't want to spend a lot on cosmetics. I like the price benchmark from Maxton Design and many members have already purchased their pieces.
