"The cars are expected to cost around $20,000 and compete with luxury names like BMW and Mercedes."

Um, I'm stumped on this one. Guess we can only wait and see.

1 billion people, avg annual income of $800, I'm thinking pretty damn low. Besides, a big percentage of OEM and aftermarket parts for other major car companies are all made in china anyways.

Low. In fact, so low, you'd might step on em. jk.

The truth is, China is going to be an economic powerhouse and will have the buying power and influence, so I am not surprised they are gearing up to enter the auto business in a big way. Copying MBenz, probably not a good move, though.

seriously, it seems like you can go to any part of the world, and find a chinese person or family there. about a year ago, my mom was watching some hk program about this chinese family living in iraq, iirc. i was like wtf. of course they owned a business.

LOL, if Geely wants to compete, even at such a low price-level, they should at least line up their badging properly and maybe cut out some letters/numbers, especially for cars they are debuting at car shows This the from the car being shown in Detroit (the one pictured above).

Haha, weird!

Actually, I think the numbers represent luck in chinese culture. I read something like that some time ago. Or was it the other way around?

Can someone please bring light into this?

BTW: A Jiangling Landwind (a bad chinese copy of an older Isuzu SUV) totally collapsed in an recent german crashtest. Take a look:

I would never buy a such a death-trap.

Even the model name/number is a little silly. I wonder if a MISS7150B preceded this model.
