TRE carbon fibre parts quality - buyers shouldn’t expect too much?

I just received my TRE CF mirror covers. Shipping box was dented as heck, so I hurried to check the contents once I got home.

Found one piece had scratches and marring on 3 sections , including top side that is quite visible when installed. Also small chip in the finish.

I know these are third party pieces and perhaps I am not to expect OE finish, but I’m disappointed that their support team replied saying that this sort of finish is to be expected and is within their QC tolerance. Not meant to be scrutinized up close. (?!?) and she claimed BMW OE parts are the same.<- i find this hard to believe.

Is this generally the case with AutoID parts or other third party manufacturers? I honestly was expecting them to have higher standards.

I’ve bought cheap mirror covers from Aliexpress before, but those were closer to 75 USD, wasn’t surprised when the clear coat went to crap after a year. Bur I wouldn’t call the TRE pieces cheap - is it too much to expect it isn’t scratched up out the box? I heard good things about TRE on this forum, so I’m bummed. Ah well, lesson learnt.

UPDATE**: I've touched base with Joe at AutoID and he's kindly looking into the matter. so thanks for all the feedback and suggestions to talk to them again.

My only experience with AutoID was their CF spoiler and black badges both of which have been on the car six months without issue.

This is shocking (shades of Casablanca).

It’s well known every carbon fiber part from China is made at one factory and the only difference is $$$ mark up by greedy sellers.

To be fair - the TRE pieces are full carbon fiber. The cheap ones I got off AliExpress were overlays on ABS and didnt look as.well made. But it looked pretty damn good for the super low price.

Not all the china sellers are good. There are some that are fantastic quality, but you have to be in the know.

I have CS spoiler and CSL grille from Auto ID and both were perfect. I was actually impressed by their packaging. My CSL grille was lost in transit by DHL and they replaced it promptly. Sorry you had issues and hopefully they can resolve it.

That's really odd actually. My TRE front lip is top notch, OEM quality weave, truly the best that I've seen. I've had dented boxes come in from AutoTeknic and they replaced the parts that were damaged in shipping. I would call them again and talk to someone who can make decisions because clearly, that is unacceptable.

A lot of these brands are buying parts from AliExpress is bulk boxes and slapping their logo on it. A lot of them have awful return policies if you buy directly from them. Guarantee you can find the exact same parts for less from the factories and still have better buyer protections through eBay.

Shipping to me in TX was cheaper from AutoID in England than from IND in IL - go figure. I'll pick it up from the painter on Friday & install it.

I ordered my parts from ocean design (China company in Xiamen) and the quality is top notch, you can Google the site and enquire about it.

I’m trying to reach out to the AutoID guys to clarify. Hopefully they can help with the piece in question, since it doesn’t seem typical of their standards.

Thank you for reaching out to me privately regarding this issue post this thread. I have passed this over to the rest of my team for a replacement unit.

Having inspected the imagery sent over by motorknut I can state this damage would have been caused during shipping and would not have passed our QC. We thoroughly inspect every product that goes out of our doors as proven by these responses and our customer reviews.

Thank you to all those who responded with their positive experience with TRE products and AUTOID.

If anyone else has any issues please reach out to me in the future.
