Great write-up.
Glad I have my order in for a MY25!

I guess they didn't get the memo about how numb the steering is...

"The Bimmer’s sublime steering and chassis control also play a large part in how much fun the M2 is to drive. Its helm is quick, talkative, and well-weighted no matter the drive mode, and the suspension is firm while still allowing for a hint of body roll, ensuring the driver always knows where they stand in the friction circle."

Love this! I have a subscription to the print version, but it seems that they have switched from monthly to quarterly in 2024, so the next print issue may be months away? Just got the Summer 2024 issue a couple weeks back. It features a comparison of the 2023 M2 vs. a 2023 Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0. M2 won that comparison, BTW.

Interesting that they mention "A more powerful M2 Competition isn’t far down the line."

Don't see anything to indicate there will be an M2C. BMW seems to have dropped the Competition moniker altogether. Wonder what MT is basing this on unless it's just conjecture.

i've found at least 3 copy editing errors in my skim through. doesnt really give me great confidence in their testing methods. also, usually just means that BMW PR gave the MT staff the best perks this year.

Anybody poo-pooing this in my opinion is missing the point that this just continues to confirm that all around, price, size, power, suspension etc, the M2 is a great sports car, head and shoulders above the less expensive nismo pretender types and more accessible and still able to hold its own compared to the $100kish plus M models and Porsches.

2025 with 20 extra hp and slight price bump plus updated 8.5 idrive and colors is just icing on the cake. Plus the M2 looks like nothing else on the road, regardless if you like it personally or not, making it unique.

I can’t wait to get my 2025, and for me, this just reinforces the overall value proposition of the M2 fully understanding the subjective limitations inherent in comparison reviews.

They were able to get a version with a 7500rpm redline a MT exclusive! Otherwise it sum up pretty well what the M2 package is.

i dont need motor trend to tell me that. auto rags are literally just a circle jerk of PR types handing free trips and loaner car access to other PR types in exchange for favorable reviews. they mean nothing.

As an owner follower of Corvettes, this has always been their claim to fame (among other things), this quote summed it up nicely, "An equivalent Chevrolet Corvette Z51 or Mustang Dark Horse would sticker for at least $10,000 more than the M2’s starting price, while a comparable Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 costs tens of thousands more. As great as those cars are, none comes close to the BMW’s blend of performance and practicality."

A similarly-equipped C8 Stingray would cost ~$95k compared to $70k for a loaded (minus carbon pkg) M2.

"with the automatic M2 ripping from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and through the quarter mile in 11.8 at 120.2 mph"

No add 20HP and 37ft lbs of torque...

Cool, cool. yeah that must mean they are just paid PR outlets then and that this award was bought. Very straightforward thought process.

I fully agree.
I don't want an M3 or M4 because from a distance you can't tell the from from my i4 or any other 4 series car. From the back my i4 M50 with 20" wheels looks similar to the M3/4.

Pass.

The M2 is unique and when you see a picture next to the E30 M3, you can tell what inspired the M2.

M2 for the win!

I will give you benefit of the doubt and assume you just don't know how the modern automotive media world works. that's fine. you'll note that i dont use the word journalism; that is because journalism implies a process that is free from influence and seeks an objective truth. automotive media does not work like that.

in reality, every one of your favorite media outlets relies on the goodwill and budget of automotive OEMs to put together everything from comparison tests like this to run of the mill reviews. in order to ensure constant and continued access to new cars for clicks, almost everything you see written is first reviewed, edited, and approved by PR lackeys for the OEMs. Porsche is the most aggressive in their control and purse strings; thats why you basically can't find a review of a Porsche product in writing that's not essentially a text based blowjob.

the automotive media does NOT make a lot of money. that is why you a) see the constant re-branding, consolidation, and issue shrink (MT is now what, quarterly? road&track is now a "lifestyle brand" that hocks affiliate links and products at every turn; recurrent ventures now owns donut media, the drive, and others which have turned into affiliate link marketing drivel as well) and b) why they are forced to stroke the ego of brands in descending order of access importance. and of course, if you don't do that, say goodbye to your new car access, your 5 star hotels, your free travel, (all on the OEM dime) etc. and then your job.

Actually, I do know how it works, and I am friends with several people in the industry. And while I do agree that the media outlets get lots of paid trips, the cars are loaned out and the people covering it risk that reltionship, I disagree that these comparisons are simply bought based on my discussions with them. And I'll say no further as to not continue to derail this thread.

I have it on good authority from BMW (non dealer) staff that we wont get an M2 Comp. Only the CS (confirmed). No idea about another future LCI though.
