Vehicle Battery - WHOA
Recently picked up my ride and noticed this boat anchor in the trunk. Happy to have a battery I can use for a long time while the car isn't running, but wasn't expecting it. I looked in the manual and couldn't find anything. Why does it need to be so large/heavy? I assume its to run the electronics in the background 24/7 but do all G42s have such a large battery?

Thanks for the pics -- new BMW owner here (after years of MINIs, still have one MINI), and I've found it about impossible to find any information anywhere about the location of the battery in a G42 (I've got a '22 230i).
Nothing in the owners manual, nothing in the app(s) (BMW Driver's Guide nor MyBMW), no YouTube videos, nothing. Tried the Auto Zone-type websites too, no schematics or anything. I'd wondered if the floor in the boot was removable -- haven't seen any pull tabs or anything to know how to even see the battery. There is no clear/obvious way to pry up the floor either. Feels like I'm going to break something when trying to lift up the carpeting. Clearly BMW wants owners to bring cars to the Service Dept. instead of self-servicing of the battery. |

But you do know what invisible name is saying about the battery connection under the hood, right?

Seriously -- I just want to see the battery and say, "Oh, ok. There it is." I'm one of "those guys" that does read the manual cover to cover, and I want to be familiar & knoweldgeable about the car I own, talk intelligently about it. Have zero intentions to do anything myself with the battery itself while I own the car for 4-5 years. Warranty/dealership can deal with it. |

Anyone get a "Replace battery" warning yet? Remote start won't work and I got a "limited driver services available" message, too.
This actually happened before I had clipped the 45 miles you see on the odometer. It was at only 15 miles...4 miles in from me finally taking delivery. Drove it to the shop to do PPF and ceramic, hoping the 30 mile drive would allow the alternator time/distance to get the battery up to snuff, but this was wishful thinking. After waiting months to get this thing, and the battery has shit the bed already? This can't be real life. |

probably a defective battery or some type of module related to the charging system. I've heard stories of other new BMW's having this issue as well. it sucks that you have to take it back to the dealership, but hopefully they give you a loaner.

Service appointment set for Thursday. No loaners...either I wait or get a free Uber/Lyft to home. Lame.

Nothing wrong with Battery...hopefully. It just has drained during the transport of the car via boat and trailer. Driving around/surface charging is not charging it enough. Pickup a trickle charger and charge it up to full. I just did that to mine tonight and my car is also only a week and half old. When I started charging the voltage was pretty low at less than 25% charge.
