Valentine V1 Installation E93
I installed my V1 tonight with the remote display (installed in the ash tray area after the ash tray insert was removed by drilling a 1/2 hole on the driver side of the counsel top to run the wire to the remove display). Took me about 90 minutes (as usual I worked slow and have no idea what I'm doing), and I think it turned out well and didn't have to cut into any wiring.
I located the detector to the right (passengers side) of the rearview mirror so it blends into the area around the mirror and rain sensor. I then rain the telephone wire in the headliner to the passenger side A pillar (pulls off easy start at the top corner) and around the passenger footwell to the center ashtray area. I removed the center counsel top (pops up easy with an interior clip removal tool) just be sure you disconnect the wires and remove the leather cover piece for the DCT. I then ran another telephone wire from the remote display (along with the wire for the detector) back through the center counsel (there are holes that lead you to the armrest area already there so no cutting necessary) and ran the wires under the rubber mat thingy to the accessory power plug in the arm rest. I plugged the V1 power plug into the accessory power plug and presto stealth install without cutting into the factory wire harness. Looks very clean as well and nobody but me knows it's there and runs off the key so turns on with the car. |

Post some pics for sure...sounds like a clean install. How did you power this up? It sounds like you hardwired it but didn't tap into any fuses, wiring etc. More info would be appreciated as I am about to wire mine up this week.

didn't hardwire it, just plugged into the power port in the armrest by the ipod connectors. Ran the wires to the power plug under the center counsel and brought them up under the rubber mat thingy in the armrest.

Any auto parts store. I bought mine in a kit for $10 or so. I think they are called interior fastner removal tools. The end is shaped like a square "U" and looks like a screw driver with two ends on a single shaft (if that makes any sense) so that the interior clips can fit betweeen the two blades.

the install is very easy, I should post some pics of mine, but its jsut a v1 on the windsheild with a wrie ran into roof console.
all you have to do is pull down on the light sorround then push in the tabson the right side pull it all the way out and the wwires are at your access for hard wriing it in. I am not sure why the op decided to run the wire down to the cigarett power.

I thought the best way was to do the fuse tap to the homelink/pdc fuse line. I had the telephone wire for the V1 run across the windshield down the passenger side to the fuse box. No cutting or drilling required.
For us E93 M3 convertible owners, I didn't think there was a wire that i could safely tap for power in the map light box. |

e9x - valentine one cord hardwire
so two weeks ago i bought my 2008 e93 m3 used from a private seller. he recently told me he actually hard wired a valentine one cord into the car (which was an awesome surprise) - but the wire is in a weird place - comes out through the back of the dashboard, between the front windshield and the vents. any idea how i shld hang up my V1? if i leave on dashboard, it's not going to be as effective - but if i hang on sun visor or mirror with suction, will have an ugly wire going all the way up the center of my windshield. ideas???
the red box is where the wire is.

If you don't want to re-wire it then the best solution will be to mount it to the windshield.
If you want it to look more clean you can do something like this: |

Just wire it yourself again from the roof console; it's easy. Look for a DIY here. Wiring the detector in that location was retarded, as not only it obstructs visibility, but it'd be quite a reach every time you want to mute the darn thing. Right by the headliner is not really visible by a cop unless the dude lowers his head to check for one. It's always better if they don't see a detector when pulled over (yes, it'll eventually happen even with a detector ). Take care.
