why would it need to be objective? the gentleman pointed out his feelings of the car feeling far more stable... that doesn't necessitate objective results... which comes back to me, tests like this being more important than track tests because they show more realistic scenarios on everyday streets...

i just need 1 number - give me the 1/4 mile time and speed and I know everything about how fast the car is... the rest will be felt out on how it feels on the street in terms of stability, turning, daily driving, weight, etc... track times will have 0 meaning to me especially when they are provided on non stock tires... this was the fallacy of the F87C which I owned... with proper tires it may get a good track time but on the street its all over the place, an objective measurement won't tell me that

Let’s not jump on M2ss too hard, he makes good points indeed. The numbers have been discussed by way better qualified people then me. I imagine he owns a F87( as I do) and doesn’t like my opinion. Like I said, I don’t really like it 100% either! hahahaha

I will say this M2ss, if you want to come to NC sometime, you can drive both for just a couple thousand dollars and decide what your personal, informed opinion is. I’d enjoy meeting you and discussing. It’s always fun to hang out with other BMW folks!

I believe you have me mistaken for M2CS as that is who ASAP responded to.

My post was with respect to tires only...

Wow. Not sure how I would have reacted in that situation. It would be so easy to go to jail. I know its just a car and not worth it but Darwin's law is powerful.

I never said I didn't like your opinion. When I saw the thread title I was expecting to see a review.

Why are we giving the OP a hard time? He gave his honest opinion and you don't have to agree. I really envy him.

Soon, looks like prices are dropping quickly. Well, I should say, what the market is willing to pay is coming down quickly. Owners still aren't selling at what the market is offering, though, in some cases.

I can tell you the F87 CS is a awesome car. Huge fun to drive, very precise, fast and handles like it’s on rails.

But….

The G87 is just a bit better in every way, that is if you can ignore the exterior looks. That’s the last I’ll say about that because I like the way it looks.

Start with the important stuff!

ENGINE
G87 is a beast! The low end torque is frightening! My 45 mph/4th gear pulls made me think it wanted to take off and fly. And it pulls all the way thru the tach. Sounds great too!
F87 is incredible and once wound up it flies but the pulls from down below just don’t have the punch of the G87. But man it will fly too.

SUSPENSION
Again, G87 by a hair. Maybe it’s because it weighs so much but it is glued to the road. I just keep pushing harder and harder and it sticks. The CS feels lighter and maybe a bit more “tossable” but on the road, G87 is the winner. We will do a track comparison soon at VIR club day.

TRANSMISSION
Hard to say here as F87 is manual and excellent and G87 is automatic. Both are incredible and super fast. I have zero issue with either and have driven mostly manuals but have also had DCT’s and autos. Personal preference wins the day here. You make the call as to which trans you prefer.

INTERIOR
Again G87 noses ahead in comfort and quality. The seats(non bucket) are comfortable and leather is better quality then F87. Idrive 8 is a bit much. Car may be a case of “lesser is better” without all the tech. BUT, the ability to tune and change so much of different drive modes is awesome fun.

GENERAL FEEL
F87 CS is the best of its era, no doubt. I’ve owned all variants of M2 and CS is clearly special. The G87 just doesn’t feel as special and maybe it’s because I’ve already planned to get the future releases(C, CS, CSL, etc). And maybe this is a good thing. I wanted a hot daily that I’m not scared to drive wherever and that’s how the G87 is spending it’s time.

BOTTOMLINE
Can’t lose no matter what you get. F87’s in general are incredible car’s and like I said the CS is the cream of the crop. And the G87 is indeed the cutting edge of BMW performance. It may not be the fastest around the ‘Ring or at the drag strip but it’s the heir to a long line of BMW small performance cars.

I hope this helps! Any questions?
!
First time I hear people praising the low end torque of the S58.
It is usually different and the data actually shows that the S58 under 3500 RPM is...lagging...

The only thing i disagree with having driven an f87 comp and now a g80 is the low end thing. The low end is way torquier on the f8x as supported by the power bands.

Exactly. Not sure what the OP got excited about low end TQ in the S58...
The B58 low end TQ outshines it, S55 by a large margin...to the point of calling it "too wild"

Correction to my previous post by the way, previous owner of an F87C, not just driven. Now own a G80. I prefer the power band of the G80 as it feels more NA, but the excitement that the F87 provided is not matched. Those were scary on the low end, in a good way. These start giving a lot more fun past 3500 and all the way throughout the rev range (stupid 7200 rpm red line, don’t understand why manuals couldn’t have a later one, given that the ZF8 is the limitation).

i honestly was never aware of this before. was curious as to why the S58 cars have a lower redline than the S55 cars despite having the same 3.0 displacement. now i know its the ZF8's fault.

It might actually be something else like the power drops off… Better to shift up

Have you driven a F87 and a G87 back to back, side by side? I have a B58 car and it’s a great motor indeed.

Drive a G87 hard then we can talk….
