M2 License Plate Point
Does anyone know if the mounting points for the front plate on the M2 is going to require punching a hole in the front fender or if BMW has mounting points built in? Thinking I might have to drop off a tow hook mount or something at the dealer so they have somewhere to mount the plate if they have to drill it in. Minnesota DMV is a prick and forces the dealer to install your plates before they can give you a car...

It would require drilling holes. In your case then, I'd highly recommend getting a tow hook mount and letting the dealership "install" it that way.
Then when you get home take it off. |

My brother got a new Z06 and had to go back and forth with the dealership on this. Finally they settled on if he brought a aftermarket mount and dropped it off they could install it on that and be covered on their end. Feels stupid to buy a plate mount to take it off when you get home but a cheap price to not have holes in your car.

I go nuts with this on every car I get. I make them place notes on the front bumper, inside the car on the steering wheel and even make them remove the plate holder from the trunk and trash it. I do everything I can to avoid a mix up. |

Doubt it, the M2 plate holder has a notch for the kidney grilles which the M240i does not have.

A potential solution is to run a custom-made Euro style plate. Obviously, it's just a novelty plate and not state-sanctioned but it can be ordered with your state and actual plate #.
It might be asking for trouble, but it also might look better than a US plate! Last edited by FryCookOnVenus; 03-15-2023 at 02:30 PM.. |

I still haven’t seen a G87 with a North American plate mounted on the front of the car. It’s going to be a strange looking mounting area with the design of the front bumper. The tow hook might be the only option that looks decent on the car.

I haven't ran a front plate in years. And I'm in California.

In this age of cameras at intersections all around cities I simply don't understand why front license plates are still a thing.
