Any additional info on the fuel sending unit, and how they chose that over the HPFP as the culprit? My GT had been at the service dept for over a week while they diagnosed the problem, with them consulting BMW. So far, i have not had additional "Engine Malfunction. Reduced Engine Power." warnings or Check Engine lights.
But to be honest, i still feel a slight hesitation/stuttering with wide open throttle acceleration. Gone is the smooth freight train of power feeling when i first bought the GT. So, it may be that the fuel sending unit is indeed the problem, and that the DINAN tune is just exacerbating the fuel issue... Last edited by avus; 02-12-2011 at 02:08 AM.. |

I have a 2011 535xi & had my HPFP changed. Had a Drivetrain Malfunction indication. Now my car is back at service for the 4th time for tires and they tell me I have an engine malfunction light also .They have a tech from BMW checking it out. I want my car. They will have it for a week this time. Hope to get it back Tuesday. It's getting kinda frustrating. I really love my car.

With that car they found out through trial and error. The gas guauge was reading full, however the engine sounded like it was being starved of fuel. They inspected the fuel tank, and found out that it was empty and the fuel sending unit was wedged near the top of the tank. This in turn was the culprit for the false fuel level reading. And the reason the car stalled and was not able to be restarted - after the "reduced power engine malfunction" message was displayed. Car only had 700 miles.

I knew I read about the fuel gauge issue before, and now I found the link. It appears to be a known issue with NHTSA.

Not as bad as on a 98 Audi A6 I had...the sulfur in our gas corroded the senders in the tank...they had to redesign and replace them twice to get them to work with out gas...very annoying running out of gas when the gauge says you have fuel! Hopefully, they will have resolved this by the time mine is made (for delivery in late April).
