Garage List
There is nothing new on the G87, mechanically it is a G80 with a shorter wheelbase. End.

Couple of things that we learned during the prototype test drives were that the front springs of the G87 are stiffer while the rear springs are softer and that dampers for the rear are lifted from the M3 Touring. I'm sure we'll learn more about other differences in the weeks to come. They also had to remap virtually everything (steering, suspension, brakes, etc.) for the G87. Some of the test drivers commented that it feels totally different to drive than a G80/2.

So the manual gearbox is only being offered in the base model, correct? (Obviously we don't know definitively)

It won't be as fast but it should be just as enjoyable to drive with a manual transmission and optioned PASM suspension.
Kinda sad you buy a car just to think about trading it in already—-without even taking delivery! consumerism has gone next level!

if you do have kids, M coupes are great. There is no substitute…
Yeah…never understood that and it happens a lot. Buy a brand new car and then a year later trade it in? If you needed back seats, why buy the 718? Money burning a hole in people's pockets I guess.

Bought a 2021 M2 Competition in September last year

There is a strong temptation to say YOLO and buy the new shiny toy but for the price premium a loaded version will command and the depreciation hit I'll be eating, I'm trying to stay disciplined and hold my ground =))

You think you'd take a depreciation hit on a 2021 M2 Competition?

Same!!! I got my F87 comp earlier this year as I couldn't wait, but the new one sounds like it's gonna be really good on paper. I'll probably keep the F at least a few years before switching again haha

Yes, especially when the new car comes out.

And even in the best case scenario I highly doubt I'd recover what I paid the tax man.

Interesting, in my state we get tax break for the value of the trade in when buying s new vehicle. So say you trade in. 50k car for a 60k car you are only taxed on the 10k difference.

It's the same for us. I think what I meant was that unless you either get your after-tax cost when you sell OR get your pre-tax cost as a trade-in value then you're still out.

Highly doubtful I'd get that as trade value by the time this new car is out.

Go to 8:00 into this video and it looks like you'll see the exact same seats as the M2 prototype.

Not sure if that's a good sign or bad but we'll find out in 3 weeks.

Agreed. That will be a hard pass for me.

This guy does not like the HVAC controls being within ID8. Prefers real dials. I have to agree as well.

Smart move. The only way this makes sense financially js to sell your car right now as the values are up and many are not taking much if any of a hit but as soon as the new one comes out, the uses car market on the M2C will drop naturally as most would just buy a new car than used for the same or similar price.

Plus the M2C is a beautiful car and more car than most people would ever need. It will age well too. If you've had it for awhile I get wanting something new but those trading in 1 year old cars to me is a real head scratcher unless you have money to burn.

Used market has dropped significantly the last two months actually. Ship has sailed to get a ton of money for your car unfortunately.

One exception to this would be GT Porsches. Though there still appears to be plenty of fools significantly overpaying for a variety of vehicles over at Bring A Trailer.

More than likely by the time the G87 launches the U.S. economy will be in a recession. It will be interesting.

We're in uncharted territory. Technically we're already in a recession with two consecutive quarters of negative GDP, but it doesn't feel like one. The usual indicators don't seem to apply anymore. Some of the most recent forecasts think that even if we enter one it will be short lived. Too much is up in the air to forecast anything with any level of certainty. Supply shortages, China shutdowns due to Covid. Energy and food securities, partially due to war in Ukraine.

If you asked me today if we're going to be in a mutually agreed upon "recession" later this year or sometime next year my answer would be I doubt it. But hey, my 'guess' is just as good as everyone else's.

This was recently emailed to me. What rising auto loan delinquencies tell us about the economy - https://finance.yahoo.com/news/what-...123734937.html

Food for thought.
