I dont know have a 718, my Cayman S is only a 987 but that vs my 2 is a very different driving experience.

Get both. Best of both worlds

I'm struggling to understand how the base M2 with a 6MT could have the same power delivery as a G82C. Didn't BMW swear that the 6MT couldn't handle the bigger output of the competition models? Then, what does BMW have planned for the M2C? It seems like something isn't adding up here.

Who says this is not the competition model? No one from BMW nor M has stipulated which model the initial G87 is. That is bound not to be officially revealed until October. We are in a holding pattern until then.

Look at the post that I quoted. There is lots of speculation here that the base M2 will have the same power level as the M4 C.

Is this another clue? If not why do the people that actually sat in these cars and talked to BMW engineers keep saying "Competition"? They can't all be coincidences, can they...

BMWBLOG seems to imply the car will start as an M2 Competition model.

Shmee references the AT car as a Competition model. Which thanks to T_U_D's keen eye, pointed out that it has the M seat belts which on the G80/2 only come on Comp models.

Not to mention the S58 engine code is the same as the high output M3/4C models.

I am aware, “speculation“ is not factual though.

FYI, if the G87 base ends up with the same power as a G80/G82 Competition then it is unlikely that a G87 Competition would later be introduced. It would be against BMW’s nature to offer/sell a model below another series with more power. That goes against the marketing department’s up-sell.

Edit: Personally, I believe the base car will be the competition car, it just will not be called that. It will be the M2 with the highest output available notwithstanding a CS or CSL later down the line.

Huh? They're both the same, apart from the seat covers which in the M2 prototype are in Sensatec/Alcantara. And they're better in Alcantara than when clad in Vernasca leather.

I love how everyone is baffled at what the power output of the G87 will be when ynguldyn confirmed it would be 455hp many moons ago.

The only caveat to that is we don't know what the EU models will be, probably safe to assume slightly less due to their particular filter requirements. Sorry to say.

I see that and they do look comfortable but they just don't look like they belong in toss able M2, with all that power and handling, spinning around the intersection. They don't look at though produce the most lateral grip.

We'll see how the feedback is within the new few months but aesthetically they don't look like all that..

This!

Wondering what all the talks about same power as M4C are about…someone that really thinks they would put the same power on a M2 as on the M3/M4s missed something in the last years…

But it was all wishful thinking because the G87 is almost the same exact size and weight as the G82 M4, just some parts has been scaled down to keep the price just a notch under its bigger brother's offering.

The only saving grace is the manual option or else I would honestly take my 65k+ elsewhere.. 😗
Those seats fall right into the OG M2 mold. I do believe those are legit and are the seats in the base model. No reason they would go through the trouble with blue stitching, alcantara, and embossing the M2 logo. They look production ready in the videos.

I don't mind the seats. I honestly believe BMW is trying it's best to keep the base M2 near $60k. If that means OGM2-like seats, then so be it.

Well see how it works out when more photos drop but it's certainly not impressed.
They're sub-par even for a regular 3 Series M Sport seats, so, yeah, they don't belong in a modern M car whatsoever. E82M and F87M had normal sport seats though, so we'll see, but I'd be surprised if BMW didn't put base M3/M4 seats in the M2.

I don’t get the comments on the seats, they look way better than what they put in the OG M2 and not too far off what they’re using in the more expensive G8x.

If you plan to drive in a very spirited way or take it to the track just get the buckets.

Let's not fool ourselves, over half of the G8x sold with buckets are for asthetics reasons.. No need to complain about the regular seats, they will be totally fine for car and coffee outings and Costco runs..

For me the biggest problem with the G87 design is the shape of the headlights. Some of these camouflaged pics make the shape of the headlights look very similar to the ones on the F87.This makes the front end design look so much more aggressive compared to the actual stubby headlights.Hopefully BMW will change them for the LCI.

Could that be why ynguldyn changed to base only at launch(with no separate comp option as well). His data is only showing one hp rating, leading him to believe there is no comp at launch. Why would BMW have a press event with two different cars(presumably base & comp), when the comp is supposedly year+ out. To me at least, clearly the manual was base G87 and auto was comp G87(like the M4). Maybe the G87 does have the same hp for base and comp.

December 2022 release is for M2 base.
M2 base will not have a Competition option.
A separate M2 Competition model is in the plans.
It is not coming at the same time as M2 base.
My estimate of the probability of M2 Comp trailing M2 base by a year or more - 95%.
My estimate of the probability of M2 Comp being an LCI model (early 2025) - 70%.

The M engineer interviewed in BMW Blog’s Tech Specs video clearly states that the regular seats will be those from the G80/G82 and the carbon buckets from the G80/G82 will be optional. No clue why so many individuals are having such a difficult time comprehending this when it literally came from the horses mouth.

It’s slightly concerning when BMW make the effort to stamp those sh*tty looking seats with “M2” but I hear you. Anyhow there’s no way in hell I’m not getting the CF seats if I’m ordering a G87 so I don’t care personally.

I think I am right. The cheapest model will have those seats standard. That is how they maintain the 19% delta between the M4, while adding things like adaptive suspension standard.

Joe Achilles states in his video that the seats seen in the manual car “are for select markets.” I do not believe the U.S. will see them unless NA wants to simply sell a ton of the buckets, aka part of a larger plan.

Nearly four more months of speculating, this is going to get very tiresome.

One of the other reviewers mentioned the same thing. One other nugget was that the G87 will come standard with 19/20" wheels and tires. The M3/4 come standard with 18/19" wheels and to get the 19/20" setup you need to spend an additional $1,300, so I guess they are continuing the tradition of upgraded wheels/tires for the M2 just as they did with the F87.
