I see a lot of design similarities, but updated for the modern era.
Remember that the e30 M3 was hugely controversial from a design perspective. Of course today, it's universally revered. But in 1987 it broke all the rules and garnered much criticism. Sound familiar? I happen to like the blocky design approach, huge fender flares and protruding side skirts! Very aggressive. Plus, if you've driven an M3/4 or X3M with the S58 you'll understand what a magical and amazingly potent powerplant we're getting for the M2! Plus, a 6MT, adaptive suspension, active diff, track spec cooling, etc! |

Having driven several e30 M3s, I'll agree that it's a riot to drive. Love it. You've got to really rev it, and it makes glorious mechanical sounds. I currently own an e36 M3, which is different but also fabulous. I've owned an e46 M3, e92 M3, F80 M3 in the past and now also have an F87 M2. All great cars.
But..... the S58 transforms the driving experience. It's eye popping (go take a test drive in an M3/4 or X3/4M and you'll see what I mean). In a small chassis, the G87 will be both nimble and incredibly fast. So while I'd never turn down a drive in an e30, the G87 will be a whole different universe. It's the latest, modern version of the ultimate driving machine. |

All I see is a brick with mortar oozing out the 4 sides.
While I do think this car looks better than the G8X, I don’t really see any BMW of old in the design. None of it other than a trailing edge over each quarter panel. That being said, it’s okay. I’d sure pick this over a beaver face but then again I’d have to be an idiot to pay 75k for a loaded 2 series and then wait in line for it. Make sure you PPF TF out of the rear bumper though! Y’all are high… |

I have the one I want with 375hp and 2400lbs. Also have two other options to sling around 😎. The new crop of 'drivers cars' aren't the same as they used to be. T |

Side profile is really nice. Rear is good enough, front is f*cked.

I did alot of time with my vintage Alfa Romeo's etc. Nice to see and drive. When I moved out of them, I found more time for other things and was much happier in more modern machines. Looking forward is progress. Back is nice but nostalgia is fog that fools one into thinking it was all better back when......................... |

Looking at the dimensions, it’s longer than an e46 M3 & it’s a wider than the e92 M3 by 80mm! The frontal overhang is also 45mm more than the e92, so getting into anything other than flat driveways will be interesting.
Let’s not kid ourselves that it’s like an e30 - side by side, my e30 makes my e92 look like a 6 series. |

I don't care how many think M2 looks hideous, I think it's gonna sell well and could be one of the all time great.

It will sell well and is likely to be among the last of the traditional M-cars.
Still, I’d likely take the new Nissan Z on looks & dash layout alone. |

Hmmmm....comparing the best looking M-car ever (e46 a very close 2nd) to one of the most controversial ever??? Thats BOLD....even if its just for size.
I don't recall anyone ever criticizing the looks of the E30 M3 when it launched. Maybe some old geezers of the time....but not the majority. Every car person in my family and on my block loved it. I didn't have my license yet, but I had every subscription you could have..even Roundel...and knew more about cars then than I do now. |
