If only they took the headlights from the G80/82 and pasted on the G87 (and grill from G87 and pasted on G80/82), these models would be perfection.

I see BMW is doing it again.

The G82/G80 mostly is using lighter hood, doors and other things. Before I switch from my F87 M2C to my 2020 M4 comp. My M4 had lighter doors and hood with trunk. It's crazy to me how the M4 that is bigger then my M2C would weigh less or not even with the smaller M2C.. this is one of the reasons the M3/M4 is more expensive

It's definitely the heavier one of the group if that's the same as "better looking". I actually prefer the G80/82 over the G87

Yet people in person seem to love them. I was just at Costco a few days ago filling my wife's vehicle and a dude pulled up to fill his G82 in IOMG and the guys working there were all over it asking questions. They are attention magnets. The G8x are an extreme example of a vehicles where photographs simply don't do them justice as I don't blame anyone for not liking the looks if all you have seen is the photos as it's just one of those cars that has much more presence in person.

Definitely related ugly siblings

Still hope for the G87, haven't seen it in person. The G80/2 are just as ugly in real life as in pictures.

Seriously? The new M2 is awful. I agree the G82 doesn't look great, but the G80 is a great looking car (get over the grill already).

They should have made the M2 resemble the M3/M4 with a smaller aggressive look, same grille maybe a little smaller. Like how all the F series looked alike

Exactly how I feel. The G87 is no homerun, but an easy choice over the G80.

Anyone else find their appreciation for the looks of the G80 significantly increase post release of the G87?

When the G80 released it seemed blocky and aggressive vs the F80, which has smooth / flowy lines. Now the G80 seems smooth / flowy and the G87 seems like a lego car.

I don't hate the G87, there things I appreciate (fenders, taillights, trunk shape, hood bulge) but it's release has pushed me to the G80 in a way I wasn't expecting.

Why is this surprising? There has never been a huge gap between M2 and M4 weight. F87 was 20kg(44lbs) lighter than F82.

F87 M2 Comp
(DIN/EU) - 1550kg / 1625kg(dct)
F82 M4
(DIN/EU) - 1570kg / 1645kg(dct)

There are several elements of what makes a sports car

Looks
Engine
Handing
Weight

How BMW messed up on 2/4 (looks and weight) right out of the gates puts a lot of pressure on the other 2. We know the engine is solid and still TBD on handling. If handling is not as good. They really messed up. But this doesn't mean it won't sell well since some people just want a M car.

If you compare the list to the M4, it at least has 3/4 going for it. I'll let people decide which 1/4 is the bad part….hint hint…pig nose. Weight is still heavy but the car is 8 inches longer than m2

Not surprising - "disgraceful."

We need to push for lighter cars.
Adding lightness is a way to meet emissions and economy standards and keep our beloved ICE engines alive!

Where are the 3,000 lbs sports cars!!!???

Irony will be, going forward into the new hybrid and ev era we will be looking back at these M cars as light weights.

F87 owner here; I'll take an M3 next time I buy a new BMW. Probably about the same size and weight as the new M2, a wee bit more expensive but way more practical.
