Personally don't think this is happening. Latest 992.2 rumors is hybrid for everything besides GT models. Recent videos show hybrid 992.2 testing with regular and centerlock wheels, meaning GTS is even getting hybrid.

I would put my money on this as well. Especially when you consider that the Euro climate crazies are clamping down even harder on car manufacturers. It's inevitable that the next 911 iteration is going to be hybrid (992.1 PDK transmission already has room for the electric motor)

Sixth paragraph; “There are rumors that the 911 could receive the naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine from the Cayman GTS and GT4.” “This could replace the twin-turbo 3.0-liter unit that currently powers the model, as there are rumors that the base 911 will return to using a naturally aspirated engine.”

BTW, Andy Preuninger, the director of GT department has publicly stated that the NA 4.0 engine is not set to ride off into the sunset just yet.

Those rumors started early this year. It came from early 992.2 spy shots with the center exhaust exits, then speculation that center exhaust meant 4.0L. Now the 992.2 test mules have been seen with same center exhaust, but with yellow stickers indicating the test vehicle has some sort of electrification.

I still have difficulty dismissing this though.

Andy Preuninger, the director of GT department has publicly stated that the NA 4.0 engine is not set to ride off into the sunset just yet.

Furthermore, Andy has stated that the 718 will not being ending when everyone is expecting it to and mostly due to demand for the current models.

The CT-4 BW is closer to the M3 in size but I am surprised more people don't consider it a competitor given the price point, manual transmission, and positive feedback on suspension and steering.

Right, it’s quicker than the m2 comp on track too so I’m curious how it’ll perform against the new M2 and it’s variants. Interior feels a tad smaller than a g80 M3 though.

Not sure if anything else fits what I'm looking for. Brand new, coupe, 6 cyl, turbo, 6MT, ~$60-$80K. I'd actually prefer a 2-seater but a rear seat is fine as well. I dig the styling of the Nissan Z but the overall performance is underwhelming vs its competition and low $50k's for the Perf model is asking too much to me for what you get. G82 and MKV are out because of their looks.

Pretty limited selection given the criteria. Anything I'm not thinking of?

I've seen them in person and sat in them. Weakest part is the rear which seemed like they were trying too hard to create a unique look. 18" wheels is also a mistake (similar to the ATS that had wheels that were too small). I liked the rest and compared to my F80 the exhaust sounded much cleaner.

Just looked up the dimensions. Amazing that it's 7" shorter than the G87 but 3" narrower. The M2 must have some stance in person.

The G87 M2 is exactly the same width (besides mirrors) and track as the G82 M4. Basically the same running gear, axles, wheel sizes and suspension on the same chassis pickup points due to having the same CLAR platform, but with a shorter wheelbase (and likely just a shorter driveshaft).

The closest thing to a M2 might be the M240x g42. It’s cheaper, probably quicker to 60, better daily, but would be destroyed at the track.

CTV-4 Blackwing. It's about the only other car that's close. Fantastic manual, great steering, same performance #s.

But .... 4 door, and it's not a BMW. I've had 8 bimmers in a row. And I'm not sure I can see myself in a Cadillac.

I considered the ZL1 and a version of the Mustang. I am not super inclined towards American Neo-Muscle but 3/4 options ticking all my boxes are Neo-Muscle.

New M2 (Unlikely, I feel it's gone the wrong direction from what I'd prefer)

vs.

Last Gen M2 Comp (low miles / babied so as to be like new)
Z (Nissan)
Z4 if it gets a stick (not holding my breath - well, actually I still am)
135i (keep on keeping it - I love it, but ready for a swap)

For me it will be between a 718 GTS4 and the M2 (or even a 911 if I feel like splurging). I've always wanted to try a P car, and will strongly consider it when its time for me to think about a new car a couple of years from now. In my heart Im a BMW guy, so the driving experience will have to be compelling for me to buy a Porsche. Not gonna do it because I have to have one. Test driving (is that even available with a Porsche?!?) will be helpful

Yes, Porsche dealers allow test drives. Highly doubtful you will get to drive a new vehicle given that most are spoken for, but certainly a pre-owned one. Try out a 991.1 and a 991.2 and let us know your thoughts.

True, used Porsches are the best bet for a test drive.

You can also schedule time at the Porsche experience center in LA or ATL. I was able drive the GT4 and GT3 and then followed it up with M Track days a few weeks later - it really gives you an appreciation of the difference between the vehicles.

What is your assessment of driving dynamics comparison between the 2 brands? I have been curious of P-cars, but they are out of my price range.

If the Z4 got a manual, I'd have to do a double take..., but since they're killing it off I just don't see that happening.
