Winterwheels - yes I know it is about to be summer...

So I got myself a brand new M240i xDrive, manufactured 2013 (someone ordered one, but could not pay, so I got a okay offer so to speak).

Now I know it is about to be summer, at least here in Sweden where I live.

However I have started to investigate what to use for winter wheels, 18" and 225 wide. And here in Sweden we seem to have a few G30 wheel sets for sale on the 2nd hand market, 8*18ET30 to be more precise. From what I can tell this should work on my G42 M240i xDrive - or am I missing something?

18" and 225 wide work great - IF you're not running the ZTK upgraded brakes. I believe the rotors are bigger in the front on the track spec brakes, you may not fit 18". I have the standard M Sport brakes and my 18" wheels fit great.

There are always chances that brakes cause issues with downsized wheels, so either order from a company that guarantees fitment, or get a test fitment done at whatever wheel shop you plan to buy from.

I also think wheels that fit a M340i and M440i should fit the M240i, again if the standard brakes.

I have BMW 7.5 wide 225 winters with big brakes and they fit fine, the dependency for brakes is internal geometry rather than absolute size. These have plenty of space for the big brakes.

When I was looking at aftermarket wheels, a lot of the TUV/ABE certification is shared with the M340/M440 models which would indicate a fair degree of commonality.

Thanks for all your help!

I'll most likely go forward with my plan at some date... Or I just change to winter tires onto the orignal 19" wheels that was included and get a new setup next summer. I love to have my options open

I was thinking of doing the same but a lot of people say that low profile really impacts the effectiveness of winter tires

Well let me put it like this: On my ex. Ferrari FF, which I had for 7 years including winter time (yes, winter wheels - I only have ONE car, it was a Ferrari FF and now it is a BMW M240i xDrive), the winter tires was 20" - that worked without problems. I have no problems with 19" on my current BMW.

From a theoretical point of view, a smaller wheel is better for winter tires (stud or friction) - there is no question about that. However at a certain point one has the ability to choose - it is your choice.

I have square 19x235 setup that I'm going to post for sale soon. Winter tires have about 1,500miles on them, aftermarket dark matte wheels.
