I was told by my dealer here in Charlotte that he wouldn't be able to discount the xi at all. Said he could give me $500 off a regular 325i, but the 325xi would have to be at sticker.

Yes. It is possible to get 3-4% off. Maybe a bit more, if you are a repeat customer. But that needs to be negotiated before ordering.

I got a $1000 of the list price of a 330xi, plus the usual "We'll throw in the Floor mats". I'm also turning in a 2003 325xi off of a lease, so that helped, but I also live in Buffalo NY where we average 100in of snow a year and just about every other car the dealership sells is some version of AWD. The dealer already had their September allocation sold out and were halfway through their October allocation when I ordered mine last week. The sales guy was talking about only being able to give about a $500 discount to new BMW owners..

However, if I decided to go with the 330i is was willing to give me $1500-$2000 off it, but I decided to go with the AWD since my previous version worked out so well in the last 3 winters.

i ordered mine about 3 months ago and i got it for $1000 over dealer price. i dont know what the precentage is, but when i orderd it they just tacked on $1900 for the XI . i got the sports package, and at the time didnt know it was less, so i was out $400 on the difference. oh well

I'm a repeat customer (purchasing), and have a good relationship with my dealership. I also try to send as many people as I can to my guy. I didn't have to ask for the discount, he's very decent.

I am confused. How are you out $400? You haven't taken delivery of the car nor done the financials yet have you?
Unless you agreed to a total price that had the higher SP price built-in. I'd try to get some freebies in that case. If you were doing invoice + $$$$ then the invoice will show the lower cost for the SP.
My 2 cents
