Need Some Advice
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com 1) I want to know from those more knowledgeable than I if there is anything to worry about with the car, short and/or long term. What needs to be checked, if anything? What else could they have missed during the phoned-in pre-delivery inspection? Should I have them do an alignment, etc? 2) The service manager asked what they can do for me. Curious what those around here feel is appropriate in this situation. What, if anything, would you want, expect, etc? FWIW, I enjoyed a spirited, and break-in appropriate, 50 mile drive after the blocks were removed. I have to say, the car is much improved and it was, finally, a lot of fun. I'm not sure I will ever be able to get past this episode, however.

How in the freak... obviously you're gonna need a free set of 1000M and HAS kit to recover from such a traumatic experience.
But seriously, what the hell? |

If it were me and I was concerned about potential damage from the shipping blocks over time and I was trying to be reasonable, I'd probably ask for something like an extended warranty or covered maintenance for a few years or something.
If I were trying to be unreasonable and just see how much I can take them for I'd go with Alpha97 and ask for shit like MP wheels and whatnot. |

The car was punishing over some bumps, but not all. A few times, I found myself cursing loudly after a huge impact from a small road imperfection. There was no consistency to the punishment, only some expansion gaps were painful, and the front blocks were not noticeable (I did look), so I figured it was me just not liking the car. Admittedly, I didn't get on the floor with a light to check the rear until yesterday. They were plainly obvious at that point.

I've heard of this happening quite a bit, especially in the VW world.
I think perhaps asking for a free alignment and maybe then a free oil change in the future would be reasonable. It was certainly a bone head move by the prep team at the dealership, but doubtful any real damage occurred over the noted 600 miles. |

I would ask for MP HAS suspension. It doesn't cost them much and it will alleviate your concerns about potential damage to the suspension.

We've had this happen on the F87 side with new vehicles too. Members were complaining about rough rides and 4x4 ride heights. Easily solved after removing the blocks. I don't foresee any real, lasting (if any) damage could occur from not removing the blocks, after all they are shipped with them installed, via truck, over various road surfaces.
Though, for your troubles and peace of mind, I feel it's reasonable to request an extended warranty free of charge. |

I would have them do an alignment for sure as the suspension should settle. I don't think you damaged anything but I would have them do a full inspection, which it sounds like they did already since they removed the shipping blocks.
Personally, I would purchase MP HAS and have them install it for free and don't forget the spacers to finish the look.

My situation was rather curious. They removed the tall white blocks but left the the shallow blue ones (one on each side).
Why did I even check? one of em had a bit of an impact the night before over a tall speed bump and i felt like it shouldn't have hit the stops (nor did it sound like it was hitting a typical bump stop). When I lifted the car to put on spacers, I saw the boot had been messed with and so I just wanted to check it out and pop out one of the folds that was pushed in...and I found some treasure! Definitely feels like VW days...but in your case I may have noticed it from the start...mine coulda been pretty bad if I took it on track like this because in 90% of driving, it's not going to be noticeable. If you want to do your service at that dealer, might ask for some extended maintenance or upgraded maintenance plan? |

I'd ask for an extended warranty (you never know what might pop up in the future) Ask for a full inspection/alignment It doesn't hurt to ask for a discount on mphas with free install. |

Dumb question but in this photo the white shipping block is already removed? I have the same white piece (the one below the blue piece), didn't look like a shipping block to me but wanted to double check. Front & rear picture attached. TIA. |

Next thing is to have another dealer inspect it for you. Not the one who has no idea how to prepare a car for delivery. I would not let them touch it again. If the car needs work/has damage then Id take that report to the dealer who left the blocks in and Id be somewhat demanding. |

The bottom white piece is normal. The taller shipping puck would have been on top to essentially prevent your suspension from compressing. You should almost always know the pucks are in the car because if they’re all present your ride height is usually taller but the ride is garbage cause you have no suspension travel.

You should not dwell on this. While the shipping blocks being left in place is a clear sign of sloppy "prep" it is not the end of the world. The car suffered no harm. I'd recommend you just drive the car and focus on the experience with the car going forward. |

I appreciate the responses.
I've been away for a couple of days and have had probably too much time to dwell on this, and I'm just not sure how I feel about it. I think more than anything I have lost all trust in this dealer's service department. Don't know if I will be able to get past it. There's a bit more to my delivery story, and more recent service issues with this dealer with my other cars bought there, but I don't want to bore anyone with those minor details. I'm very close to bailing and turning it into a 718. At least at the P car $tealerships, you get a kiss after getting screwed Does anybody have the actual pre-delivery inspection checklist? I assume one exists, and I am curious what else, if anything, they were supposed to do.
