ZunSport oil cooler screen installed

Quick 5 min install. I only jacked up one side enough for me to get under the front of the car. Remove (2) 10mm screws, slide the screen into place. Replace the screws through the holes in the tabs on the screen. Then there are 2 additional screw holes on the rear edge of the screen. They supplied 2 tiny screws, but I wasn't confident in their ability to secure the screen to the plastic belly panel, so I used slightly longer and thicker screws. Appears pretty secure.

Honestly, it's a $10 mesh screen They charge $176 for, but if it protects the oil cooler, I guess it's worth it.

Looks good. I actually have the same one for when my car arrives. I agree it probably costs $20 to make but I couldn’t justify $600-800 for one that was just more visually appealing when you don’t even see it on the car

I got mine installed too. Easy enough. I too should get a couple more substantial screws. The ones that came with it are pretty small.

I considered one of the other options, but for the price this seems to get the job done.

Once I can wash my car after the PPF cures I will be installing the rest of the Zunsport grills for front of the car. It is what it is. If it improves the looks or not they're going on so I won't have to worry about a puncture.

Where did you order the zunsport oil cooler guard?

I've been trying zunsports website but it wasn't in stock and no way for them to notify me when it is in stock.

I ordered directly from ZunSport. I've also emailed back and forth with them, and they respond very quickly.

I got an email back after a week and they said it is likely going to be stock on January 15th

Just ordered mine today from the Zunsport store on Amazon. They still have some in stock there if you are looking for one.

Anyone think of a way to install just plain mesh underneath? Looking to do this to my M4 and if it's possible to do if for as little as $50.00 it might be worth it just stopping by a home improvement store and grabbing mesh.

I have been debating this too. Paying the $500 for a mishimoto kind of sucks but it does look like it does a good job in protecting the oil cooler but for me, I would have to take it to a shop to get it installed. This looks like it could do a good job as well and I can do the install at home. Will keep thinking about this.

Yeah I just don't see a point in paying for a $500.00 skid plate because if worse case scenario did happen you can literally buy a replacement oil cooler WITH A ROCK GUARD pre built into the design for $600.00 Defeats the purpose to me anyway!

Worse case is the engine gets starved of oil and you need an entirely new one or insurance totals the car.

I do suppose that is the absolute worse case scenario!

Yeah, makes no sense spending $500 to protect a $65K+ automobile.
Deep thinker on board.

I split the uprights and just got the Zunsport for $158 shipped. It's strong, it doesn't restrict airflow across the cooler, little rocks won't get stuck all up in its business that will constantly need cleaning out and for me way more protection than the car has stock. Going to put it on and not think about the matter again. Think about your time. $50 to cut your own mesh and figure out how to install it, when for $158 it ships to you, install is easy, it has a bit of a gap to the cooler, and its stainless and stronger than whatever I would build. What's your time worth to you? For me easily that extra $100. But if you like projects and need something to do, then I can see building your own as rewarding.

Sure a 2x4 or boulder will likely not be stopped by it but that kind of hit will be obviously heard and I'll know to stop and check no matter what kind of protection is installed down there.

Does ZunSport have a US website? Don't even know what the pounds-to-dollars conversion is.

You can find it on Amazon, but also on their website it does the conversion.

Yes, UK shipments of car parts are often quicker to North America than the delivery time within North America. Sometimes I will order a part one evening and have it by the end of the next day, but 2 to 3 days is normal.

To Canada parts from the UK also seem to spend less time in customs clearance than parts from the US. The duty agreement that Canada has with the UK on car parts also means that the shipping cost from the UK is often less than the 20% VAT that UK residents have to pay compared with 5% GST and no duty delivered to Canada, so the part is cheaper for me than it would be in the UK.

You Know, I agree with you! Think I'll opt for the Zunsport instead!

JABCAT -- 5 months into your ownership of the oil cooler screen, has it been put to use (any evidence that it was hit and protected properly)? Is it still tightly in its mounts, and do you have any noises or vibrations?
