Question Is this a Non-Shadowline Package G87?

The following photos are from BMW NYC and were taken at the BMW NA Headquarters in NJ. FYI, BMW NYC is the only BMW NA owned Center within the U.S.

I am having difficulty determining if this G87 does not have the Shadowline Package or does? It very well may have a combination of both? It is clear that the car is equipped with the chrome quad exhaust finishers, but it also appears to have the shadowline headlights? Can anyone with better eyes make a precise determination?

I was wondering the exact same thing after watching this!

I think the headlights might not be shadowline.

More I think about it even if I want to go white and black (AW with black wheels, CF roof) for the stormtrooper look… I may not need to spend the extra $300 for shadowline. Chrome exhaust tips always pop more and I feel like with the upgraded headlights either with or without shadowline look good.

My guess, probably this is an EU car? Here we have 2 separate options and they can be chosen individually, M shadow line lights (black headlights only), and M shadow line (black exhaust tips only).
Even stranger is the emblem for 50 years of M for a car that will be marketed in 2023.

There is a large hole in that theory as BMW NA has only been displaying U.S. spec G87s to the public.

The 50th Anniversay for BMW M is this year and per the U.S. pricing info EOP for the 50th emblems is 12/22. Meaning that after December, they will no longer be available as a factory option.

So... As long as you ordered your car in 2022, even when they are currently building and recognized as 2023 models... it offically counts as a 50th anniversary model with the badging? That would be a rare bunch of cars?

A U.S. spec G87 will have to be built during the month of December in order to get the 50th emblems otherwise it is not happening unless you diy at a later date.

With Center allocations unknown one would have to suspect that it will only be the launch vehicles that will potentially be optioned with the 50th emblems. Pure speculation.

It looks like non shadowline based on the chrome exhaust tips. The only way to know for sure is to see the gold strip inside the non shadowline headlights. One of the pictures looks like the headlight has the gold strip but it is hard to see it clearly to know for sure.

One interesting thing is that even when you get the chrome exhaust tips you get the added tip on top of the exhaust pipe just like the black shadowline tips.I guess this makes sense because it is the same setup as the G80.It will make it harder to clean the carbon buildup on the tips.

FYI, the carbon build up is easily removed via ‘Never Dull’ or a metal polishing compound. If one never lets it get out of control it never becomes a problem.

I know. It’s just the gap in between the two pipes that i was worried about for carbon buildup getting inside that area.I have never had a car with this exhaust setup before.

Although the US Shadowline package (ZHO) includes Shadowline headlights (3MF) and black exhaust tips (7M9), Canadian cars and other markets have 3MF and 7M9 as separate options.

I am well aware. This thread is U.S. specific given that the photographed G87 is displayed within the BMW NA Headquarters.

I don't know if you are aware, but BMW Canada reporting structure is via BMW North America. You can't really draw any conclusion from that pre-production car, as it may well be similar or the same as the ZB car shown in Toronto recently if BMW NA HQ were responsible for the demo car configs for both the US and Canada. Configuration finalisation is unlikely to happen until after these demo cars have been produced. Likely there is a disclaimer somewhere that says something like "Equipment shown is not necessarily the same as will be available in this market".

On the announcement day the Canadian site initially had the Alcantara/Leather seat trim available in the configuration preview, it was gone the next day, I'm sure that the US config finalisation wasn't any less variable.

Regardless of lighting, they are undeniably chrome. The gloss black exhaust tips do not resemble what is pictured below.

This is a video of the same car and the tips look to be black. Looks like the inner ring may be stainless even with the black exhaust.

I think it's how the lighting is reflecting off the edges of the exhaust tips. Pretty sure we had this same convo about the headlights also ha 🙂

Who knows, but it is a fairly significant color variance between the two and photo number two of the TR above was in studio in Munich.

BTW, the car at NA that was video recorded could have easily been rotated out, they do this and it is quite obvious that BMW has an abundance of ZB’s floating around. It would be nice to see a TR rotated into the mix.

Image of a stock g80 comp exhaust which also reads silver, at least the inner section. Pretty much confirms that the ZB exhaust is also shadowline.
