I watch one review and they love the g87 m2. Another review they say it’s boring and has numb steering feel. I had a supercharged e92 manual m3 and last car was a f82 m4 stage 2. I felt my f82 had better steering feel than the new g80 g82 and g87 m2. What gives? I have only test drove the auto g87 m2 , manual g82, and auto g80. I want to buy a new car since I totaled my m4 but I have a feeling I’m going to have buyers remorse with a manual g87. Should I get a g87 or f82 and do upgraded turbos?

Well you’ve already driven the M G-series cars so if you weren’t impressed, that’s not going to change overnight. F-series will feel more ‘alive’ and the G-series will feel more refined, but that comes with a trade off of feeling more numb. Just the way new cars go these days. The G-series interior is also much better, but if you prefer drive feel the F82 is probably best for you.

If you want the feels, may I recommend a low mileage F87? About as unrefined a modern M car as you can get.

I don't base my car buying decisions on reviews or what other people like. Drive the cars (looks like you may have already) and decide for yourself.

If you want steering feel, put monoball thrust arm bushings on the front. The G87 is much better car in almost every respect compared to the F87 in my opinion having owned both.

If you test drove the car and didn't like it, test drive it again, maybe at a different dealership on different roads. If you don't like the way it drives, scratch it off the list and do something else. No point in us trying to convince you whether you should or shouldn't like something.

Agree 100% on this. I've test driven cars and didn't like them only to test drive them again at a later date and have a totally different opinion. What I've found that works for me is to test drive a car at least three times on three different occasions and then decide if the car is what I'm looking for or not. Otherwise, you risk having buyer's remorse which is the absolute worst.

I test drove a m2 competition for 2 hrs and thought the short wheel base made it to skittish.

This is true. Hard part is that it isn’t easy test driving the g87. I’d love to test drive a manual.

If only it was easy test driving these cars. But thx for the responses guys. I read up on the mono all thrust bushing and someone said it changes the steering slightly but it’s no game changer. I drove an m4 manual the other day and it really was discouraging how numb the steering felt.

In all honesty the last generation of BMWs that had good steering feel was the E9x which still had hydraulic steering. To me all new BMWs I've driven, M or not with EPS are numb.

yeah there aren't any near me so it makes it difficult.

E46 M3 for all the analog feels.

G87 M2 for one of the last ///M cars with 6MT, RWD, and 100% ICE engine.

Easy.

I actually didn’t think the steering in the m3 was that much better than the f82 m4. The m3 would have a lot of maintenance issues though compared to the f82. Ugh. Maybe I’ll get a manual f80 and go big turbo on it.

My experience is the exact opposite. I had an E92 and an F87 and between the two the E92 hands down had better steering. Wasn't even close, night and day.

I think you can count on one hand the amount of enthusiast cars (not named Porsche) that have good steering feel.

My old E90 had probably the best steering feel out of all the cars I've owned.

Watch YouTube video life of Joe where he compared a f87 cs to a g87 m2. They talk about how disconnected the g87 m2 feels. Ugh. I’m not trying to hate on the g87 but spending 70k on a car I’m not in love with is probably not a great idea.

Interesting. I have both in the garage right now. E92 definitely better, but I wouldn’t say night and day…so I’m curious what about the e92 stands out to you? Thinking about it will give me an excuse to go for a drive

The e92 supercharged was awesome. The manual was cool and the sound of the engine was awesome. I do miss it. I wish I had the money where I could have kept it.
