Wireless Charging Pad?

A little ashamed to admit this...but...for the life of me, I can NOT get my , or my wife's, phone to charge on the wireless charging pad in our new 230i.

Both phones do support wireless charging and are charged like that everyday. They both charge fine in our previous Mazda and her current Volvo. Just can't get them to charge in our new BMW.

What essential piece of information am I missing??

Wireless charging pads built into cars almost universally suck.

I specifically left it off my build because of this.

Here is my guide to wireless magsafe charging in the car.... not that it should really need a guide. https://www.mdxers.org/threads/how-t....183644/unread obviosuly you can use whatever wireless charger you prefer, but getting it mounted and disabling the OEM is basically the idea.

I just read the first line of that post and cracked up laughing! I'll look into it further. Thank you

Are you certain that your car has wireless charging? Many people mistake the NFC symbol (looks like a sideways WIFI symbol) for a wireless charging symbol.

The image on the left is with wireless charging, on the right is without.

My pixel 7 pro has to be at the very front of the tray to work, even if off a little bit it doesn't happen.
By front I mean closest to me, not front of car. So i put it in the tray and then pull it towards me until it's touching the lip.
Might not be your issue but it does seem very location sensitive.

Therein lies the rub.
I don't have the charging pad then. OOPS!!

I assumed a near $50K car would have wireless charging...silly me.

Yep, it's crazy how many things included as standard on cars half the price are still extra cost options on these cars.

It famously makes phones extremely hot which is not good for battery longevity. I never use mine

I excluded it from my build because of everyone saying it was useless. I was considering getting one of those aftermarket trays that lay into that area and get power from the cigarette lighter jack, but havent bothered. My phone rarely dies so I dont have a need to always be charging while I drive. I have a USB-C cord on hand if I am ever in a pinch and need a charge.

I have an s24 Ultra and it gets cooked. Usually only stops battery loss not really gain any charge. Cuts out often from getting to hot.

Combo of wireless android auto and that charger seems to generate too much heat to be useful.

Yep. I've heard it's only the combo of android Auto and the wireless charging that is an issue with phones getting super hot. Unfortunately I have an S23, so will not be getting the charging pad. Like others, I have a short USB-C cord if I really need it.

We had a Mazda CX-30 and had the same issue when charging and using AA. Even got overheating warnings multiple times.

Will just stick with the trusted USB cable then.

thanks everyone!!

I wonder if it depends on the case and/phone. Guess I’ll find out soon enough. Car should arrive this weekend or next week!

I'm just starting to realize this myself. My girlfriend just got the new lci Tesla Model 3, and comparing it to the M340i, we're noticing how much options we were missing on the BMW that are standard on the Tesla.

The Tesla comes standard with:
2 wireless phone chargers
PowerTailgate
All the seats are heated/cooled
Heated steering wheel
Self drive auto-pilot
Cameras/recording
Good speakers as standard
Probably more that I forget

All that amounts to an extra $1500-$2500 depending on which BMW you're optioning. The payment is also $300 less for the Tesla compared to the BMW.

Wild.

Woah, you mean to tell me that, if you buy a car that is cheaper that it has more features to mask that it is in fact a poorly made piece of disposable trash?

Couldnt have guessed.

Tesla’s are designed by the IT department and styled by IKEA.
If you want a bland and boring car you go for it.
