Software update 11/2023.73

Latest software version 11/2023.73 has rolled out for idrive 8.

No mention of what the update does in the upgrade notification and nothing noticed in the first few minutes after restarting.

Mine was at 9% Downloaded earlier so I paused it until I see what coding changes users on here report it resets. Afraid it will bugger up my ASS settings! ( I probably could have worded that better!)

Mine tried to update today and I found it strange that there are no release notes or anything this time around. Im wondering if it fixes the software problem with the digital key recall thing. Car was just at the dealer 2 weeks ago they and they didnt do anything about that.

Mine updated yesterday. It reset all the "usual stuff" - ambient light (I had the missing for 2023 purple coded), start in Sports Individual (my workaround for ASS) and all warnings.
Also gone are the Bentley chimes and the Bowers Wilkins sound settings.
No big deal.
I just got bimmerutility last week - so update gives me a good reason to play with the new tool. Used bimmercode before, but this one is supposed to do a lot more.

It always clears ALL coding carried out using BimmerCode

Yep looks like they are rolling it out to more cars. This evening iDrive is telling me it’s downloading the November update. It also said I could speed the download using the mybmw app but it still says “no updates available” lol.

Any reason I should NOT do the update? I only coded the start in Sports Individual and don’t mind doing that again. As long as I CAN do it again??! Can anyone in US confirm that they don’t force us to enable the crazy lane drift/yank the car in the opposite direction thing? I heard some in Europe have that turned on permanently in this update.

It’s law in Europe to have it enabled on start up on new cars. In some vehicles you can switch it off but it always re-enables when you restart the car. In the M240i its enabled permanently but it’s far from a “yank the car in the opposite direction thing”. It will vibrate the wheel gently and give a slight pull. I’ve never found it an inconvenience or distraction.

Try going around a stopped/parked car or construction site that completely blocks your lane. When you have to thread the needle and cross the dividing line, while avoiding cars in the other lane, it’s unsettling to have it pull you in the other direction.

Driving on the highway it’s fine, but not in tight situations.

The system doesn’t work below about 40mph. On its lowest setting it hardly pull you anywhere. I’d get your system looked at if it’s acting that way.

Never let facts get in the way of a good bit of outrage!

Yeah, I could indeed have worded that better - I suspected that it would clear all codings applied by BimmerCode - what I was more concerned about was, that it might block BimmerCode from coding the ASS at all in this update.

Thankfully, I can report that I installed 11/2023.73 this afternoon and then re-coded all my preferences with no difficulties.
ASS - Memory function Active
Mirror dip - 60%
Autolock - 5min
Volume Popup - Not active.

For folks who have coded ASS Memory Function Active before, hopefully you will be able to have that setting again.

Only thing different I noticed in the update was that the Volume Popup had a Harmon/Kardon Banner on it but as I generally disable the popup I may just not have noticed it before? Nothing else jumped out at me?

Just did the update, and then spent 30 minutes re-coding all the things it killed.
So far, I can see NO DIFFERENCES. Was hoping for CarPlay to now start up all the time, and maybe Digital Key Plus... yeah, I know, crazy to hope for that.

What BMW owner crosses the median into the on coming lane below 40mph?

Okay, well, it will be an opportunity for me to set it up again. I wondered if I did it correctly because the color indicator kept changing from green to blue but the beam did seem to change around cars. Seemed kind of crazy.

Other than uncoding everything, I haven’t noticed a single difference.

So now the My BMW app is telling me I still need to update and telling me to connect to the car. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Anyone know where in idrive 8 you can see what software version you’re running?

The app doesn’t keep in sync or is slow to keep in sync with the update. My app still shows that it’s ready to do an update and please proceed to iDrive to continue. (I completed it last night)

Mine is doing the same. BMW phone App still 'trying' to send the car the new update even though it already completed.

Car shows it's updated to version 11/23.

Just go to settings (Gear icon) scroll down to Remote Software Updates , click on it, click check for new updates, takes a couple minutes, then "no new updates available , version 11/23 installed"

I guess we just have to wait for the App to catch up to the car
