People seem to be split

How are we feeling about the chances of xDrive coming to the Competition or LCI variant?

Hoping the Competition that is supposed to be available from 8/2024 will offer xDrive, freshen the rear especially, and a little facial. That is the one I am going to focus on, I think.

AWD would be auto only so I won’t be waited n’y for that. If you look at the M3C/M4C, it’s basically a cash grab for BMW. I think the M2 C will get 473 hp like the base G80 and a few little cosmetic differences, nothing worth the wait. But I have been wrong before!

although an unpopular opinion I get an m2c xdrive in a heartbeat. I currently have m340 xdrive on order and would gladly sell it if an m2c xdrive was available. Hopefully the rumors are true.

Agreed. Where I live in Wisconsin my "fun" car is a lot more fun with AWD. Looking forward to M2C with XDrive. Probably the replacement for my RS3 in time. I do love having 4 doors, but if a comparably equipped M2C is 10K (or more) less than a M3C, I'll go with the M2.

Not really…

Based on the discussion in that thread there doesn't seem to be anything conclusive. I want xDrive for sure but just can't find any confirmation anywhere.

I don't see the M2C getting x-Drive.

I think they are going to leave that for the M3/M4.

I just hope we get a manual M2CS. That'll be the one I'll wait for.

fwiw anyone have any experience with the m2 in the winter with snow tires? Do you find AWD a necessity for the winter? Living in the northeast there's always some reservation hopping into a rwd car during the winter or inclement weather ... well at least for me

I live in Toronto and while winter tires are absolutely necessary they aren't a complete solution. There's still days I wish I had xDrive.

Normally I'd say that you'd be fine with an RWD car so long as you had winters tires. But in the case of the G8x the tires are so wide that I believe you'd have trouble with traction in deep snow. The winter wheel set for the G80/2 have a square 275 wide tire setup. That's really wide and not ideal. It's great for the G80/2 xDrive cars, but when it comes to winter wheels on a RWD car you want more narrow tires for better traction.

I'm not risking missing out on a manual to wait for the comp. I have concerns that similar to M3/M4, comp will be auto only. Two reasons, one, it's auto only in M3/M4 comp, two, in the longer Q&A video he specifically said keeping the manual in this car at all was a big internal debate. So if they struggled to decide to keep it at all, and manual isn't available in higher model comps, I'm worried M2 will also lose the manual down the line.

In some markets the fact that it's now an up charge for the manual also seems to lend credence to my concerns.

I could be way off base, too, and wouldn't mind more insights/correction.

But that's why I'm buying a manual car now, and if the comp comes with a manual, then I'll just get one of those when the time comes.

But on the other hand the M3/M4 base is not offered with both transmissions. I wouldn't look to the M3/M4 as guidance to the lifecycle of the G87. It is clear it is taking a different path. If you watch the bmwblog video with the M2 product manager. He eluded to the G87 following the F87 lifecycle. Member ynguldyn also used the wording "changeover" when referring to the G87 comp production starting 8/24. If the comp simply replaces the base like the F87, it can retain both transmissions while getting a power bump to M3/M4 base numbers. But if you want to be 100% safe and confirm getting a manual M2, then by all means get one now. I personally don't think the comp will be that much different besides a small power bump, ext black pack, new color options.

One thing I hope they don't do, is hold individual colors until comp model arrives.

For sure the comp will be more of the same thing. Just look at the M3/M4. Problem I see is that if the Comp is 473hp then the CS will have to go auto to get a power bump to 503 or more.

What about the S58?There was talk that maybe when the M3 and M4 get the facelift in 2024 that the cars might only come with an S58 with mild hybrid technology.Does that mean that when BMW changes the M2 to the M2 Competition in 2024 it could also come with the mild hybrid?

I think the comp will get fender side M vents. This is my only real gripe to the new model... the fender gills would have really set off the side I think and gave it the extra detail to match the front and rear.

I think they left them off this car to add something new to the comp model. Think about the M mirrors of the F87.

If that's the case, I will be at the dealer to order the Comp fenders for my base M2
