YA like really thin oil, how about 0w-12?
BMW has a new spec out, its ll-22fe, a 0W-12 oil. Supposedly for use in the Gen 3 B58 engine, this is the latest gen of the B58 engine called B58TU2 or B58N. For 2023 it appears only in the 740i or the X7 40I model. One source i found claims it was designed for, and uses, the 0W-12 oil. I have not confirmed that with a second source, (thus "supposedly) but the oil is out there as a BMW labeled product. Perhaps that's part of why they can claim an impressive 25 mpg city/31 MPG highway for this 4700 lb car with a 375 hp inline 6? Last edited by danallxt; 05-17-2023 at 04:13 PM.. Reason: spelling |

Ramps are quite annoying with this car. There's the issue of clearance but in my case I had to deal with the car beeping at me anytime I was driving up the ramp. Kept saying "Secure rolling vehicle" thinking I was about to crash and switching from drive to park. To fix this you have to keep constant acceleration up the ramp. Can't stop halfway to check.

same here, ramps make it an effortless oil change. I also like the filter removal from top as the older traditional filter spin out from bottom sometimes could get a wee messy.

I don't drive up my ramps, I use a floor jack on the front drivers side jacked up high enough to get the ramp under the front drivers side wheel. I then let the car down on the ramp and then begin the oil drain. I then jack the car up again and take the ramp out and let the car back onto the ground until the drain finishes. Then jack the car up again into the ramp to put the drain plug back on and then let it back down. Super easy and fast oil changes.

I recommend filling 6.75 qts instead of 6.9. There’s always going to be oil that doesn’t drain, especially with the ZTK package having an oil cooler under/behind the front splitter.
Did an oil change with 6.75 qts, registered full, left following day for a 2,500 mile road trip, maybe 300 miles at 100+ mph (western NM and eastern AZ), got home and still registered full. |

As long as I've been doing oil changes I've preferred having a backup and not relying on one device so this setup is perfect for me. I leave some of the weight on the floor jack and some of the weight on the ramps, if either device goes, I don't die. In my previous car, I'd leave some weight on a jack stand and some weight on the floor jack |

yup, best to be safe.
My ramps also are a bit too steep and contacts the front spoiler, so i just place a board in front of each ramp and drive on that to give the car just that much extra lift so to not contact the ramp. |

I think I've only had to do this after 5,000 miles or so, but I've now made 5,000 miles my OCI (rather than 7,500)...just because. |

Instead of using ramps for my next oil change, I got the JackRod. I used MPRs method of jacking and placing ramps under the wheels, but that is kinda inefficient plus doesn’t leave a lot of room under the car with the suspension under load. What do y’all think about these? Seems pretty solid in person, have yet to use it but confirmed it fits my jack.
