Post Who's buying, who's leasing?

Two more weeks of waiting on the reveal and we probably won't see any more leaks anytime soon. So here's a poll to keep us busy. I'm actually very interested in seeing the results. Personally plan on buying the car, but I know many will lease instead.

We don't know lease rates, yada, yada, yada, but forget that for now. Let's say they are not favorable or unfavorable, but somewhere in between. Same with financing to buy. What's your plan?

I'd really like to lease my first one, then buy one with factory installed Mperf parts after LCI maybe even final year.

Ideally I tell my advisor to secure my position for a CS or whatever we get and maybe actually buy one of those.

Buying for sure. Never been a lease guy.

Leasing right now is also very expensive.

I've never leased before. Have either bought outright or usually finance a portion through a credit union. I used dealer financing once but only because it was through NMAC at 0%. Does BMW ever offer 0-0.9% for 48 or 60? I realize it may take a while before they do again but just wondering if historically they have.

The last one sounds nice as well but I don't wanna get my Tomicas wet.

My '21 240 is at 0.9%/60. Sad that that won't be a realistic expectation for the G87

jordan24c, I didn't know they still had offers like that anymore.

AlpineBoost, last time I got .9%/60 was back in 2010 due to the 2008 financial crisis when they were practically begging people to buy.

Yeah guess I got lucky (?) on timing. Ordered it around Labor Day 2020, took delivery last March. At that point, the M2C was at 1.9, no idea what they're landing at now, but I can't imagine it's very attractive if every financing offer has "Contact Dealer" instead of the rate!

Just looked and saw that too. That's a first and definitely not a good sign for finance rates.

Cool

Plan is to buy and enjoy for a couple/3 years. Maybe the value will stay up by the time I have it a little over half paid off. Might then get a C8 Hybrid for the mid engine experience.

Is that C8 the planned Zora model? If I had the means I'd get the NA Z06 instead, even if it's slower just to listen to that FPC V8 scream.

I'm actually surprised most everyone is buying, with the exception of one bubble bather.

IIRC the F87 was more even divided between buyers and leasers.

Leasing is so bad right now, with all brands.

M340i right now is leasing nearly $900/month for 36/10, zero down at msrp w/ no options.

2 series residuals are notoriously terrible.

With 3.9% rate and poor residuals, it doesn't make sense. It'll probably be a $1200 payment.

I was in line for a Z06 as well but my allocation would likely have been near the end of the run LOL. And then it turned out to be $20k more that most of us anticipated. I am eager to see what the AWD Hybrid will be like, that is where my sites are set right now.

I am sure the ZR-1 and Zora will be quite a bit out of my price range now. Unless I manage to have $50k available as a down payment after paying down this M2 and another stepping stone car or 2.....

What are the 60mo finance rates at your dealership on M3/4's for someone with excellent credit?

That was me since I'm not in the market for this car (and I love bubble baths).

The residual on a base M4 is 50%, I could only imagine how absurd the numbers will be for the M2.

For the uninitiated, a 50% residual means you're paying them half of whatever the sticker price was to you (negotiated), to "borrow" the car for 3 years or so. Yikes..

BMW used to offer some really sweet lease deals circa 2008 - 2014. I leased a Mini and 135i and they where relatively dirt cheap monthly payments. If I remember correctly the residual around that time was around 68% for most of their models. Now, they are much more conservative in predicting future depreciation, thus, leasing is no longer a bargain.
