Top Uder 5 Min Mods (Fire Extinguisher, Spare Tire, Front Plate Mount, etc)

Finally took delivery of my M2 - cold and rainy day - spent 30 min in the garage with some quick mods that I had ready to go.

All took less than 5 min.

Mod 1: Mounted Element Fire Extinguisher. Perfect position behind the screen, just visible enough from the inside to know it's there, and clearly visible from the outside for safety crews.

Took 2 min to install. Used 2 Element mounting loops and 3M mounting tape. Very secure, and what I have used on other cars on track.

Mod 2: Installed a pull handle to the trunk cover. 5 min mode. Little drill and screw rivet over a pull loop. Turns out there is good storage on both sides of the battery. Got my tire repair kit and electric tire inflator easily in there.

Items used and final product below:

Mod 3: Modern Spare Tire. Not so much an install, as putting it in the trunk and strapping it. I have a few ideas on how to mount it somewhat more vertically to take less space.

In the end got the spare (which has the jack and tools in the cover/bag, and my track tool bag strapped, quickly just to have something. (needs some work). This took 3 min

Mods 4-9: Put Anniversary badges on front, trunk and 4 wheels. Wheels took 10 seconds each. Front and back took 2-3 min each. Only used 2 plastic trim tools. No BS making tape or the like. I did heat up the front and back, but it was not needed.

Some pics - just for completeness.

Mod 10: Carbonio Front Plate Mount. Took the full 5 min, most of which was cleaning the surface and peeling the tape and making sure it was centered.

This is a good mount for those who do NOT intent to run a plate full time, but want to keep a plate and mount in the trunk, in case you get stopped. It has a simple thumb screw that you twist to remove or reattach the plate assembly. When removed there is almost nothing left in place.

I have been meaning to do this exact same thing. I am surprised IND or someone doesn't sell a kit with M stitching for this.

Do you use any type of threadlocker on the thumb screw? Thanks.

There is some interesting (magnetic?) locking action. I didn’t, but then again I wasn’t planing to run it he plate full time.

I think blue thread locker could be used for those who plan to leave the plate full time, but prob not a must.

baron95 why the tire repair kit AND the modern spare? Spare solely for track days, or are you always driving around with it in your trunk?

... I'm new to the goflat world without a spare, so I'm just looking into all the options.

Hi there. I do carry the Modern Spare in the trunk everywhere I go. Since I have 2 sets of OEM sized wheels, I may carry a full size spare to track days (but prob not).

The repair kit with compressor is tiny. The reason to carry it, is that if it is a simple flat - e.g. a nail on the tire - it's easier to simply repair it on the spot, rather than changing into the spare tire. Besides, there is always the chance where you get a flat on a Sunday far from home and have to drive back on the spare, and another flat may happen.

One more mod today. 5 min to lift the M2 (my first time lifting a G-series), 5 min to install the ZunSport lower oil cooler guard.

Tools used:

Dead blow hammer- to straighten the tabs that arrived completely bent. Just ponder them with wooden block.

10 mm socket - for the two tab bolts - they take very little torque.

1/16 drill - to do a pilot hole for the two self tappers.

Philips screwdriver.

My impression on this oil cooler hard….sturdy, high quality, easiest to install, good protection, but, I’m not sure abt those self tapping screws being enough. I thing I’ll add one or two more.

Pics or it didn’t happen….

Not familiar with that extinguisher, does it have issues being in direct sunlight? I like the idea of that but not sure if the constant heating and cooling would effect its performance or possibly cause other more catastrophic issues like popping.

Ill probably do like I did with my other cars and put it under / in front of the passenger seat.

Good question, but it does not. It is 100% solid, and most of the track & racing folks I know have it on the dash for quick access and visibility.

For those installing the SunSport bottom oil cooler cover, buy and use the HW below from Amazon. Much better quality and fasten's it securely - also stainless and much sturdier. Sits more flush than the 2 cheap screws that ZunSport included.

Latest mod, just in time for next week’s first track day. From IND - slotted tow strap solution. A bit expensive but nice paint match.
