FYI if anyone here isn't familiar with Matt who runs Obsessed Garage he has a ton of videos on his system of detailing cars and has tried what seems to be all products and finds these little gems. I use maybe 1/2 of his recommendations but his videos are worth the watch if you've got some time on your hands and are interested. The microfiber cloths he recommends were also game changers for me - ones that actually dry things, don't lint, are absorbent and washable/reusable for example.
You’re going to find the G87 brake dust a formidable opponent.
Been there. Done that.

Except the wheels. Two soap applications and two rinses did very little. Ultimately used a brush and a mitt to clean them.

New pads soon. The factory issues are wearing me out.
Koch Chemie MWC will do it almost touchlessly. Stinks though.

That's the only way to really conserve product. You could try putting the cleaner into a pump sprayer also.
Yeah I just bought a sprayer and wheel cleaner which recommends a dilution ratio.

I doubt it. Not on this wheel configuration to my standards.

It’s new pads.

No, it's for real. I had an M2C with even larger pad swept area that make even more dust than the G8x brakes. I tried 11 different wheel cleaners. If you don't mind price and smell the MWC will do it nearly touchlessly. You should get new pads but they will still be dusty. Even Carbotech 1521 on the 2NH brakes of M2C is dusty by normal standards. There's no escaping it when you have this much surface area making contact with the rotor.

What wheel cleaner? If it's an alkaline cleaner, which is most of the dilutable products, it won't do shit against this brake dust unfortunately without significant agitation.

Thanks, but I suspect with ceramic coated wheels, new pads, and foam cannon/pressure washer I’ll be good to go without more bottles and buckets.

Appreciate your concern.

I had all those on my M2C and it's still a struggle. Good luck though. The coating helps a bit, but unfortunately ceramic coatings are hydrophobic yet not very oleophobic/omniphobic and the brake dust still sticks pretty well. If you want to stick with plain foam cannon and soap I would look at a stronger but still neutral soap like CarPro Reset. I have used Adam's Car Shampoo and Mega Foam and they are nice soaps but really gentle.

Been dealing with BMW brake dust for the past 10 years, and if you think that's bad, try Brembo (). It isn't an issue at all and the friction they generate has saved my family so M-pads and rotors for me forever on the road.

Adams spray wheel cleaner (the turquoise stuff) is what I've settled on after trying maybe 8 products through the years and some form of mechanical contact with a cloth or brush has to happen over every part of the wheel otherwise it won't come off. Adams has to sit on the rims for about 5 minutes and be evenly sprayed as it reacts with the iron in the dust which turns it purple as it oxidizes (hence the smell of the stinkier wheel cleaners)...There were a couple other products I liked that worked well but turns out Adams manufactured it for those other companies, was the same stuff (different color) and cheaper.

For me the complexity of the wheel and ability to clean the hubs and calipers is the real issue....for example (my car):

HARD wheels to clean regardless of method (20-30 minutes all 4 corners):

Much Easier to clean regardless of method (10 minutes all 4 corners):

The rims on the G87 look like they will be a bear to clean potentially, so I'll spend money on new rims, not wheel cleaner haha...

Update- KOCHCHEMIE Magic Wheel Cleaner, worked great!

The wheels were pretty coated in brake dust, 4 months, and a coating of MWC with a short soak then a light scrub of a soft brush, followed by a rinse with the hose removed all the brake dust. I was impressed.

If it turns purple, same stuff that's in the Adams wheel cleaner. Adam's less than 1/2 the price.

There are other surfactants and solvents in both of them, not just the thioglycolic acid that reacts with the iron oxide. Also, MWC uses a faster reacting version of the ammonium salt of TGA, and a bit higher concentration. It is generally more effective. It's probably 30% stronger than Adam's, not night and day, but it works better. The viscosity is higher and it seems to cling and work better in general. I've tried a LOT of wheel cleaners. The Adam's is probably more cost effective since MWC has to be imported, but the MWC edges out anything else I have tried.

100% agree, and I've used it and it works great, just too expensive for fleet work. I'm just in it for the TGA, es ist good enough to loosen things before mechanically washing.

I mentioned this previously, but the iSweep 1500 pads have virtually no dust. They are almost equivalent to the carbon ceramic brakes I have on my Z06. I've got almost 700 miles since the last time I cleaned the wheels and they're still nice & shiny/dust free. With the wheels ceramic coated I can simply wipe away what little dust there is with a microfiber towel. No need for foam cannons or wheel cleaners.

Personally I would never dry wipe any contaminated painted surface but hey, if it works for you, go for it.

Good to know the 1500 are that low-dust. Carbotech 1521 and EBC Red on F87 M2C with slightly larger pads than G8x are still pretty dusty.

I'm still going to try the iSweep 2000 pads instead & see what they produce. Just hope it's not too bad compared to the 1500 pads.

I’m running the 2000s and would say there is still some dust. Less than OEM for sure but more than the 1500s it seems based on the results reported from those with this set.

Few pictures to compare OEM to 2000s. First one is OEM after about 3 weeks and a little rain. Second one is the same time interval but with the ISweep 2000s.

Here's my wife's X3MC after 3 days (yes 3 days) with original pads, and more than2 weeks + some rain with the iSweep 1500s. Then the M2 after 250 mi with originals and 700 mi with the 1500s. In the last pic I literally just pulled into my driveway from a 300 mi drive.

That first pic looks just like my M2C after a couple days also. That is impressively low dust for the 1500s.

When I get my G87 I'm changing the pads out to iSweep 1500's right away. I'm not dealing with what I have dealt with for 3 years on the G80 M3. I have style 825M wheels which is essentially the same style as the G87 wheels. They are a pain to clean and the dust is relentless. I'm sick of washing the car and only having clean wheels for a day.
