iDrive 8 (G42 2023) - Apple Car Play 'Hey Siri' stopped working after IOS17 Update
After upgrading to Apple IOS17 this week - iPhone 14 Pro Max
'Hey Siri' when connected via CarPlay without any input controls seems to have stopped working on my G42 running Idrive 8. Previously 'Hey Siri' worked in the same way as 'Hey BMW' not requiring any user input. I have tried unpairing and repairing car play but the problem still persists. Is anyone else having the same/similar issues? All other car play functions seem to be fine. |

I have a ‘22 X3 with iDrive 7, and car play breaks once a quarter or so. Sometimes it’s short lived. Sometimes it’s a month or more. And if I pair two phones, it’s game over.
Smooth CarPlay integration is definitely not on the top of BMWs priorities. |

It’s no longer “hey Siri” the command is just “Siri” now. Try that.

With iOS17 on my old iPhone SE, "Hey Siri" works fine. My iDrive version is 03/2023.40.
I did have to accept terms and conditions after the iOS17 install in the Music App and turned Siri off and on again just in case, but commands such as "Hey Siri.....Show Google Maps" or "Hey Siri....Skip to next track" work flawlessly. |

Siri sounds like some kind of old school robot since I upgraded. At least when reading messages.
I'm also getting the thing where the gps (Waze) thinks I'm a block over which I thought bmw fixed. |

Looking at the other thread maybe my iDrive doesn't have the gps fix. I've got 03/2023.50
Weird that I only started seeing it after upgrading the phone tho. |

Thanks! I noticed the new IOS release. Did you have to long press the mic button for siri or did it just pick up like Hey BMW with no input?

My "Siri" also isn't working with 17.0.1. Also, my entertainment system keeps switching to phone audio, thinking there is something to play even when I'm listening to the radio etc. I then have to activate Siri and cancel it for the system to switch back to the source I was listening to. Anyone else having that issue?

I have actually just upgraded to an iPhone 15 Pro Max and it’s on 17.0.2 and the siri problem still exists. Thats ruled out hardware. Must be a bug on the idrive or IOS side (or both). |

Yes, tried that on my old iPhone 14 Pro Max a few times (removing and repairing). Also, added the iPhone 15 Pro Max from new as a new device, still the same. Each time repairing on the set up screen under: Please select how you would like to use Siri in the vehicle 'Use "Hey Siri" and 'Long Press microphone button' are both selected. Connected Drive services also ran a system reset. Still no luck. Last edited by ClarkyM; 09-30-2023 at 08:55 AM.. |

For anyone that is still having this issue and looking for a fix. IOS 17.0.3 didn’t resolve even after removing and re-paring the device (iPhone 15 Pro Max).
However… iDrive8 07/2023.53 was pushed overnight and has fixed the issue. The release notes indicate a one time reset of the activation word for personal assistant and 3rd party assistants i.e. Siri. After updating to the new iDrive version, I also removed my paired device and re-paired. 07/2023.53 seems to have finally resolved so appears this was an iDrive issue and ‘Hey Siri’ now works without any problems without the need to long press the Mic button on the steering wheel. Still running IOS 17.0.3 |
