G87 Side Skirts Scraping on driveway

Hi all,

I recently moved into a rental property in San Francisco that’s situated atop one of the city’s hills. Unfortunately, the garage is located on a steep driveway, and every time I drive up or down, my side skirts get scraped against the ridge. Can anyone recommend any solutions to this issue?

P.S. I understand that angling might be a viable option, but unfortunately, my driveway only accommodates a single car, so that’s not an option for me.

Pics would be helpful, but based on what you're saying I'm thinking you may need to get some wooden boards or race ramps to help here.

That's rough. I think slowly getting the car up there, right before scraping, and then placing boards under the wheels would be the way to do it.

Placing the board under the front or back wheels? It happens both when I’m leaving and when I’m coming back

I'm thinking it will probably take some trial and error and having someone there to help you figure out optimal placing.

However, I found this video that kinda illustrates what I'm envisioning.

You might as well place 4 $100 bills at the top of the driveway.

I would bolt a wood plank across the concret where your tires reach when it scrapes your bottom. That way it lifts your car up to not scrape. Or bolt down two of them vertically and ride on those. It would cost you two wood planks and a couple concret bolts. Which you can remove later if you are a renter.

Or something like these. Which you can also bolt into the ground.

I appreciate the help! I’ll try finding a wood plank or a curb ramp.

One more thought. Are you sure it's the side skirts scraping? I've scraped on some speed bumps and thought it was the side skirt/lip, but found no damage.

Instead I think it's the air flow ducts on the underside of the car.

Yeah it was the side skirts. I have my car in a detailing shop right now to get it ppf’ed and they confirmed it was the side skirts.

Since it is a rental property you probably will have to get permission before you bolt something to their driveway.

Look at that driveway... a couple small bolt holes he could easily patch with cement puddy that no one would ever notice is hardly going to affect the value or stand out any worse than how that driveway looks. If anything he is upgrading the driveway for the owner.

Nevertheless owner of property may not want it there. Better to ask.

That driveway is awful, I'd move.

Sorry, I know that doesn't help, but that situation is rough. Gives me chills just looking at it.

I think if you can get away with what others said, bolting down something to elevate the tires, I'd do it. I'm surprised it doesn't also scrape on that first ramp before the asphalt patch. That looks steep too from the pictures.

The c7 corvettes had these slippery, nylon/teflon scrape guards you can attach underneath the nose. They acted as a sacrificial layer, but would help with scraping
