Software Update 03/2024

Had my car in the service centre for a replacement headlight due to water ingress and when I got it back the car had been updated to 03/2024.

I can't seem to find any upgrade notes on this update, does anyone know what if there was any changes/additions?

I saw some discussion about this on some of the BMW electric vehicle forums.

That's the only place I have seen it mentioned also. Trouble is the electric vehicles are so different to the combustion ones that its hard to tell what updates/features are applicable to me and not just the i4 etc. Not sure why BMW thought it was a good idea to have both combustion & fully electric vehicles on the same software identifiers.

Yesterday i got notification that 03/2024.40 was ready to be installed.

Just installed 11/2023.73 couple of weeks ago..
Nothing in the change log as usual

Anyone running this version and still able to use basic coding features with Bimmercode?
Don’t trust BMW with these unspecified updates..

Thanks!

Obviously keep in mind that most if not all the coding gets wiped during the update, you will have to re-code everything

A BMW update with no significant changes. How can that be?

Just did the update today to version 03/2024.40 on my 50e. No issues and no idea what they did other than update the owners manual pdf.
As below:
Special notes on this upgrade
This BMW Remote Software Upgrade brings existing functions up to the latest technical standard.
New functions are equipment-dependent; information on your equipment can be found in the Owner's Manual in your BMW, from your service center or from BMW ConnectedDrive Customer Relations.
As part of the upgrade, all installed BMW ConnectedDrive apps and the Integrated Owner's Manual are automatically updated to the latest version.
If control messages (e.g. parking brake, malfunction in the powertrain) are displayed, please restart the vehicle.
If you perform the upgrade during charging, the charging process may be interrupted and may not continue automatically (only for PHEV/BEV).
Modifications/conversions or retrofits/engine tuning or special coding etc. to or in the vehicle that have not been approved by BMW AG ("BMW") may be lost or lead to significant problems (including subsequent damage) during and after vehicle programming as a result of a BMW Remote Software Upgrade. Neither BMW nor any BMW service operations involved will be liable for any resulting damage.
Due to changes in the range of functions, the privacy settings may be reset to factory settings following installation. Please check your privacy settings after installing the new software.
Disclaimer: Driver assistance systems
Please remember that the driver assistance systems do not relieve you of your driving responsibility. Drive in an anticipatory manner and please adjust your driving style to the applicable traffic situations, visibility and other traffic conditions to avoid accidents.

I asked BMW directly about the patch notes & they said that there would be some but they are not made public for the first couple months of release. Why this they do it like that is beyond me.

Just applied update, some BimmerCode codings reset, some left coded?
The joys of applying "standardised" updates to systems with multiple hardware and software revisions I guess?

Volume Popup left coded to Not Active (Popup Active is default)
Auto lock left coded at 5 min (2 min is default)

Automatic Mirror Tilt reset to 90% - had to recode to 60%
ASS Memory Function reset to Not Active - had to be recoded to Active

Bizarley, One Touch Indicator still flashes 5 times (previous coding) despite the option to select this being removed from "Exterior Lighting>One-touch indicator options".

I've decided not to bother updating unless something significant happens.

The OTA updates are applied sequentially, if you don’t maintain the latest version, you won’t be able to load any newer versions.

I’m not sure if that is true anymore. My car didn’t receive one of the updates because I disabled them. Then decided to enable it again and received the latest update with no issues.

Ah, ok. Was basing my response on previous experiences with my M135. Good to know for those that want to hold off from these minor updates.

I've read this with other OTA updates and this type of setting where the coding is both for the setting itself, and for the iDrive menu item. The menu item gets wiped but the setting itself does not get reset.

Nah, I didn't update 2 versions ago and I'm still getting update requests for the newest one. I'm still not updating.

Worst case if I don't update over time and it requires previous ones I can just go to the dealership and have them do it anyway.

Interesting that the car didn’t tell me to drive around while it installed the update. It just did it while sat and locked.

The car has to be parked for the install to be carried out, it’s the download that is carried out while you drive.
