If you truly believe it is "fact" that the majority of people find the G87 unattractive based on the MINORITY of people who are on car forums or social media sites commenting on cars, you have consumed far too much kool-aid.

And while it's not strictly objective (in terms of lap times), the shorter length of the M2 is an advantage if you want a more tossable car. It beats the M4 in nimbleness.

So the M2 does have a niche, although it's rubbing shoulders with other niches.
Depends out of one side of the forums mouth we hear that tht f87 being more tossable doesn't matter, the new one is better because it's more buttoned down and stable with increased performance. Out of the other side of the forums mouth it says the g87 m2 is preferred over the g80/2 because it's smaller wheel base, more tossable, more fun, the reduced performance doesn't matter compared to m3/m4 because the more playful character of the m2 is what makes it shine.

M340i G20 performs better than M3 F80 for example!

Yes, but some people seemingly need to hear it or read/see it before they accept what should be common sense (...at least as it pertains to BMW).

Should be same MPG its the same engine if not a bit better due to weight and less boost.

M2 is slightly better on hwy. You missed my point. 2 gallons less in the tank. Less range.

Change the tune guys. This “butt hurt” tune is getting old. Not everyone owns an F.

That's the whole point, we are real people who live in the real world and in my experience everyone I've run into has generally liked the M2 when they see it, all my friends and coworkers who like cars think it's a cool aggressive design and are excited to see it, rando's on the street are giving thumbs-up and think it's a cool car. If the g87 forum is a bubble of people who like the g87 (which it is) then the online car enthusiast community is a bubble of people who love to bash new things.

It’s a pretty large sample size (of the bmw and car enthusiast/media community) at this point and scientific conclusion doesn’t require an entire population to achieve statistical significance.

Do you also agree that the majority of car enthusiasts find your car ugly? Cause the e63 m6 is a bit of a meme in it's own right:

https://www.autoevolution.com/news/o...ry-185515.html

And the g42 2 series also has gotten tonsss of hate. I get you don't love the g87 but when you see it in person the front/rear bumpers compliment each other pretty well and the flared fenders are badass as hell. If you think the only reason that someone could look back at the g87 and appreciate it is because they are a badge snob then you are overlooking alot of things there are to love about it.

Lol some Russian dudes opinion is evidence of the majority of car enthusiasts/media? Lol. Do I really need to pull up the countless references of this car looking like a dogs ass? Don’t waste my time. Anyone with two eyeballs that looks at that e63 m6 in that article and compares it with that g87 legoland monstrosity knows which one looks nicer… oh and one has a normally aspirated 550+ horsepower 8,600 rpm built v10 (at least mine does) one of the best sounding engines ever. Gtfoh 🤡

Haha if you didn't realize that both your BMW's are also controversial cars that not everyone likes, I don't know what to tell you. I'm gonna be happy with the g87 since I dig the design and think it is a better and more cohesive design than the m4. I'm excited to look back at it every time.

I'm happy you have some badass cars in your driveway that you can enjoy too, don't worry about what other people are saying about it!

There’s also a prominent forum bubble that thinks BMW can do no wrong no matter what they make.

It can sometimes seem a bit pathological to those who don’t subscribe to that mindset. Those that love the brand but are still able to criticize poor design choices but when they express their opinion, are barraged into submission by an almost militant, labotomized love of whatever BMW stamps the roundell on.

There are definitely haters out there but not everyone is trolling.

It seems to me it's not one universal pro-bmw bubble, lot's of the people in the g87 forum don't like the new m3/m4 grille, most everyone doesn't like the XM. I think it's just different people liking different cars and other people really dis-liking them.

Honestly the only thing that ruffles my feather is implying that other people's subjective takes are invalid. Such as brain-dead takes like "The only reason anyone would want to look back at the G87 and appreciate it (vs the G42) is if they were a true M car snob.". I think the G87 is miles better looking than the g42 and implying that it's just because of the badge is hilarious.

That I can agree with and yes the most important thing is when you’re the one spending the money, you’re happy with it.

Seriously, wtf is your problem? So you think the G87 looks like ass. Good for you, do you want a cookie or something? You’re over here in your own echo chamber preaching your opinion as if it’s gospel.

There are PLENTY of people who think this car looks good and you seem awfully triggered by that for whatever reason. Some even think it looks better than a F87 or a G42, including me (which I currently happen to own and about to trade in for a G87). Calm tf down and take a chill pill bro, it’s not that serious.

Dude, have you ever looked up the word "FACT" in the dictionary? (Do you own a dictionary???)

"Subjective" and "opinion" and "personal preference" are not listed there.

YOU don't like the looks, but that doesn't make it "FACT."

If you hate it so much, go to another forum.

Oh man o man. This is is getting good on the looks of the G87. There is some funny Sh!t being said here lol. I kinda sort of like it and I’m 64. So much for it being a younger generation design I guess. Still don’t like the G80/82 grills tho. And believe me I’ve tried. Good thing the next BMW on my list is an M8 with stonkin V8.

It really depends what you use it for.

Automatic:

If you track the car and want to have the fastest times.

If you daily the car and want the convenience of not shifting.

If you drag race and want an advantage.

If you canyon carve and want the advantages of more gears and closer ratios.

Manual:

If you love the experience of being connected to the car.

If you like the mechanical simplicity of a manual.

This is so true. When you are just driving on the street, the manual gives you that connection and involvement. When you are on the track, you are already so connected and involved with so many aspects of the car, you don’t really need a manual to feel it.

Very, very well said.

There many logical reasons to picking a modern sporty AT over a manual, and vice versa.

I would like to add that there is a visceral thrill to running through the gears pedal to to metal in the M4, especially from a stop or a slow speed. The exhaust note, the fast seamless shifts, the inertia pushing you back in the seat. . . throw in a meaningful corner and I feel very connected to the car. It’s intoxicating. So I would argue that an AT does not necessarily detract from a connection to the car, but might actually add to it.

And this is my first sporty car with an AT in 50 years of driving sporty cars.

Regardless, I would never criticize anyone for getting manual.
