Been an M car fan my whole life. 40 something years on I have just ordered my first 1

Been a car guy my whole life, and have owned the best performance car I could afford at each stage of my life.
This has included Civic’s, S15, type R, Skyline GTS, WRX, and Evo’s.

Having said that I have always been a beemer fan and held an M car above all else ever since my uncle owned an E30 and took me for a spin in it when I was 12.

Well now at the ripe old age of forty something and I have the big things in life sorted, I just went and ordered a brand new G87 M2 and I am beside myself with joy!

It will be the face lift model and is Brooklyn grey with black wheels.
When I saw that colour combo at the dealership I knew immediately that this spec is the one!

When I first saw the model in person I fell in love with it, and so fittingly, almost poetically, the shape of the M I was buying reminded me of my uncles E30 with the squareness of it and the boxed rear guards. Kind of a ‘full circle’, ‘beautiful connection’ and ‘I knew I would one day get one’ type of moment.

Will arrive in November, and I am still pinching myself.

What a fantastic feeling it is to finally order your first M car; I'm in nearly the same boat as you so I can fully relate to that excitement. Hope it's a great experience for you!

Oh how good right!
When I took it for a test drive I was shocked at how brutal and savage it was!
I couldn’t use more than half throttle before it got a bit loose in the rear end!

Congrats on the order!

This is my first BMW as well and super excited for it but not so much the wait as I'm very impatient! Dec. 1st production date is what I was told but definitely worth the wait!

It says a lot that the G87 is the first brand new car or first BMW for a lot of people.

I never considered buying a car brand new before it and now it will be my first.

It wasn’t my first new car but my first M. Always liked them growing up, friend had an M3 he got shortly after high school. I had a Mini Cooper S so not sure if this counts as first BMW. Couldn’t be happier with choice almost a year in.

OP - congrats on your order. My M2 is my 2nd BMW & 4th in the family (wife had an M3 convertible when she was a teenager). Wife got her X3MC 3 months before I decided I wanted an M2. It is my 43rd vehicle, and BMWs were #s 41, 42, & 43. So it took me awhile to come around to them.

Tbh, I always liked the Ms, but everyone I knew that had one was always a douche, so I avoided them. Now in my mid-40s I don't care

I just hit 10k mi on my '23 & it's been great so far. 30k mi on the wife's X3MC & no real issues to speak of either.

I think the lesson we all need to take away from this is....don't be a douche! My wife has the same concern with us getting an M2; concerned that people will THINK we are "douchey" without actually talking with us

I am just hoping that now I have the car people’s expectation and the reality regarding my douche level will finally meet.

Likewise, my G87 M2 in Brooklyn Grey with black high gloss wheels is my first M car. I owned a 330ci back in 2000, nice car, but alas not an M car. I have been very happy with my M2 and remain certain that you will as well.

All the best and happy trails in the new car.

HA...same with my wife. She once said "don't drive like those BMW drivers". I started laughing and said "I kind of already do".

This will be my first BMW as well so glad it will be an M car.

Congrats! Gonna be awesome.

After a lifetime of manual transmission American muscle cars:

1974 Camaro Z28
1971 Olds 4-4-2 W-30
1980 Camaro Z28
1984 Camaro Z28
1987 Mustang GT
1995 Mustang GT
2005 Mustang GT

I finally got my first BMW - a 2015 M235i. Liked it a lot ... until the 2016 M2 came out. Instead of spending $25K to upgrade to the OG M2 with the same N55 engine, I went for a 2018 Camaro 2SS 1LE.

But finally, in 2021 I got my first real M car, the M2 Competition, and never looked back. Have a 2025 G87 on order now at status 155 Final Assembly. Hope to have it by late September!

Nice and congratulations!!!!!

I posted.pictures an E30 and G87 M2 in another forum and indeed the designers took the E30 as a model for this M2.

I'm coming circle because I've owned multiple M3s, but in a different way. I'm paying homage to my E30 with the M2 but also my Techno Violet E36 by ordering the M2 in TP with red calipers.

Thank you for all the well wishing from everyone!
And thanks for those who have also shared a little bit of there car ownership journey to get to the M as I have done.
It’s really nice to see that there are a lot of us that have had the same passion, goal, and eventual success in getting our M car!!!
Quick question though, how can I reply to a post on here?!
Using my phone and I can’t see an obvious way to reply to a specific post!

The bottom right of each post has a symbol of quotation marks. Hit that button to quote someone and then hit the button that looks like a pencil (to draft a new response). If you hit the “quote” button then the new draft will automatically have the quoted response first.
