F1 2024: Spanish GP - Barcelona (June 23)

Quote:
Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya

When was the track built?

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya was built as part of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics development programme. The foundation stone was laid in 1989, while the first car race was a round of the 1991 Spanish Touring Car Championship.
When was its first Grand Prix?

Two weeks after the touring cars raced at Barcelona, it was Formula 1’s turn. The track enjoyed a sensational debut, with Nigel Mansell and Ayrton Senna’s famous eyeball-to-eyeball drag race down the straight, before Mansell took the lead and drove on to victory.
What’s the circuit like?

The drivers love the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, which is just as well, as they have traditionally spent huge amounts of time pounding around it during winter testing. The track is a good mix of high- and low-speed corners, with the challenging Turn 3 right-hander a great chance to evaluate the balance of the car your team’s designers have given you to fight with for the season.
Why go?

You don’t need us to tell you that Barcelona is one of the world’s great cities, even if we just sort of did. Food, culture, beaches – it’s all there, making a Spanish Grand Prix holiday a properly attractive proposition.
Where is the best place to watch?

You’ve got plenty of choice, with almost the whole track overlooked by grandstands or general admission areas. On the outside of Turn 1, Grandstand A will let you see the best overtaking spot on the track, while the general admission area around Turn 3 will provide the awe-inspiring sight of Formula 1 cars being pushed to the limit of their downforce capabilities.

So what are your predictions?
Last week's Canadian GP sure gave a different perspective on the team's strengths.
But I think this track won't favour Mercedes as much as the Canadian track did.
My prediction:

1. VER
2. NOR
3. SAI
4. LEC
5. HAM
6. ALO
7. PIA
8. RUS
9. PER
10. TSU

That won't happen for Checo with his 3P grid penalty ...

Checo is a big pocket hole in the Red Bull budget cap !
It's a shame that SAINZ didn't got Checo's 2025 seat ..

I live in hope for the constructors score, you know, like RIC was under pressure in Canada and got an 8th.

To compensate for the front suspension correlation anomaly RBR probably had to change the set up to a more manageable setting for MAX until an answer is found but that has turned into a bigger problem for Checo with his attempt to set up to suit him.

Even more pressure on Fred to get his act together, with the Le Mans 499P winners probably taking the pi$$ out of him saying ''do you want to know how our team won'

Honestly, I'd love to see Max trounce everyone by 20 or more seconds. I think RB will be strong here, with upgrades, the corner types, a real track (vs the BS junk they've been racing at - no offense to anyone) and the weather should all be back to what we saw in China.
While I dont care for MB I am hoping to see them ahead of Ferrari and Mclaren so that RB can only separate themselves more at the top.
It will be interesting to see how Max's next 10,20,30,40+ wins play out since he hit 60 wins 10 races earlier than Ham. He is into seriously rarified air without having a dominant car for 10 years (heck he hasnt even been in F1 for 10 full seasons yet) but a long way off Sch at number 2 all time.

Ham on a podium, not going to be surprised if he gets P1 or 2

Mercedes screwed over HAM, not the other way around. I'm happy to see him go if it means more championships for him, which I think is the case.

Mercedes has been disloyal to Ham since 2016, and not even attempting to protest 2021 was very telling. As was their lack of commitment to HAM despite coming 3rd in the WDC last year by a wide margin.

People are in for a rude awakening if you think HAM isn't a real one. Russell, Max and Kimi could and would never.

I like Checo Perez but I would never put him in the top 5 right now.

As for predictions:
top ten in qualifying 0.75 gap to pole.
in the race, who knows but it will be worth watching if the FIA doesn't "f" it up.

He's in one of his funks... seems to always go through ups and downs. Hopefully he can turn it around. He was 4th last year, 2nd in 2022, 5th in 2021 and 2020... the 3 place grid penalty will hurt.

Depending on the next few races I'll give Checo a ranking then.
