Booked car in for break in service...

Odometer just over 1100 miles. But earliest dealer had a service slot open is May 31. Not sure how many miles *past* 1200 is ok to drive so I'll try to keep the miles below 1200 miles.

Going to be hard. Really enjoy driving the car.

At any rate looking forward to this service and being able to take RPMs higher.

Also, service advisor said at the break in service the engine controller is unlocked to allow the engine to develop more/full power.

Hmmm...

Just fyi, there’s a thread dedicated to Mechanical Maintenance for oil and fluids, break in, recalls, servicing, etc. I don’t know how to link it but it’s right below the Interior Modifications thread.

Jeez man that’s a ridiculous amount of time, every break in I’ve done I just showed up and waited

I ran into the same issue with my breakin service. One dealer had a 3+ week wait time while the other was next business day. If you don’t have another dealer around with a quicker turn around, I wouldn’t recommend driving past 1200 miles as hard as the urge is.

I tried to make an appointment thru the App. I showed up at the agreed time and they had no record of it. App is not scraping over. They did it anyway.

Yeah, I don't know how I missed the Mechanical Maintenance thread.

Thanks to the mod who moved the post to the right thread.

This is my first BMW dealer. With my 230i -- bought last May 31 -- I didn't just show up and get the car in. But I don't recall having to wait too terribly long for a service appointment.

But now I have to note this is just before school lets out and I guess a lot of owners are having vehicles in for service prior to the summer and the additional driving they expect to do.

No other dealers that close to me. If I don't use the local dealer -- 5 miles from me -- the 2nd nearest dealer is 120 miles away. The dealer I bought the car from is 200 miles distant. Even if the 120 mile distant dealer could take the car right now I'd be over the 1200 miles by the time I got there.

Just have to wait.

Have not tried the app.

Some months ago in person I booked an appointment to have my 230i in.

Got the appointment set up. It was a week or more in the future. At home curious I got on line at the dealer and it looked like there were lots of time slots available for service appointments and time slots earlier -- by days -- than my service appointment.

Went back to the dealer to check if there was an earlier service appointment available based on what I saw online and was told the web site service booking isn't quite real. While I could have proceeded and gone through the booking a service motions a person would have to call me and setup the service appointment.

My habit is to book in person. I'm fortunate in that my dealers -- here and where I lived before -- are (were) nearby and it was not out of my way to stop in on my way to work and book an appointment.

I think I was at 1450 miles for my break in service and dealer was unconcerned about it. I wouldn't feel to bad about going over by a few miles. Enjoy the car.

Thanks for that. I'm suffering severe M2 withdrawal pains so I just might toss caution to the wind (so to speak) and drive the car some before the service. Not 250 miles more. But some.

Break in service completed today. 1204 miles. Not even a sign of an eye brow raised when the service advisor noted the mileage.

Seriously I didn't expect any.

With the break in service out of the way I can resume driving the car more now. My poor JCW has racked up over 4K miles since Feb. 27 while the BMW has just gone 1200 miles. Oh, wait now 1230 by the time I got it parked in the garage after taking the long way home...

Do you remember if the techs took it out for a ride at the end of the service?

Lol guess I need to read the manual. My first BMW from new.

There’s a break-in service?

Does the car whine about it when it’s due?

It whines about everything, yes. Both in-car and in the app.

However, try not to wait for that. If you can estimate when you'll hit 1200 miles, try to schedule your service in advance. Some (but not all) dealers have service backlogs.

No test drive after 1st oil/filter service (at around 600 miles) nor at the break in service.

More recently had the car in with a leaking left rear tire. After being fixed car came back with IIRC 6 miles on it. Then not long after the right rear tire developed a leak. After being fixed car came back with 4 miles on it.

Not unexpected the tech would want to road test the car to ensure the fix held.

Still too far away from my M2's 10K mile service. But got in my MINI JCW the other day and got a message service due in 3800 miles.

Oh joy. I get to see that nag now every time I start the engine.
