Official Road Cycling Thread

Seems that there are a hand full of cyclists in the forum. Figured we could have this thread for all things road / TT biking.

Judging by some of the other threads in this subform, there will be more tumble weeds in here than cyclist.

Anyhow, I've been a mtn biker for a long time, but over the last 10 years haven't hardly ridden at all. This past December i picked up a road bike. Been riding regularly and i'm moving up to 100 miles a week in the coming weeks. Currently at about 85-95 miles a week for the past 3 weeks.

Share your training, bike pics, bike questions, riding stats, etc...

Dammit!

I actually blew it by running late this morning, so I am a terrible ambassador. I will make up for it this evening, however.

I do frequently commute to work via bike though (yeah yeah yeah...)

In my defense, i'm in FL. If ride your bike to work day was in Dec or Jan, i'd be down.

Does it count that i brought my bike to work twice this week? lol

Consolation is that so far this week i've got 62 miles in the bag, plan on getting 50-60 tomorrow finishing up with 25 or so on Sunday.

All of this weeks mileage is on a new saddle, so i'm not thrilled about riding this weekend. Apparently there is a break in period. Though i'm not sure if i'm breaking in the saddle or if the saddle is breaking me in. haha

Good luck, I broke 2 of my beloved older Specialized Toupe saddles last year, one involuntarily and one because I guess I'm fat. It was a long process to find what I liked to replace them with. A lot of swapping ensued last year.

The Toupe is what i'm on now and i'm not yet thrilled. Hopefully it'll get better soon.

I actually ride on the newest gen Toupe Expert right now, while I didn't love it at first I am actually really comfortable on it now, so there's hope. Admittedly, my team deal is with Specialized, so I am a homer for them, so there's a chance I forced myself to just like one of their saddles after trying multiples within their range.

I doubt you're a specialized fanboy. I've been advised to get a Toupe from 3 people and my LBS, which isn't a specialized dealer. lol

I'm gonna try and stick it out. I just need to get really comfortable on something in the next 5 or 6 weeks. The last week in July is going to be about a 430mile week with probably 30 or so hours in the saddle.

I do tris, is that close enough? I only have 3 bikes in my house that are mine, so I'm not too crazy, the others are for my wife and kids.

Since I stopped racing, I've been able to get down to 4 bikes. I think that is a low as I can go.

I have great respect for triathletes. Running is pure aerobic capacity, cycling has a strength component, and swimming is so dependent on form. The training involved to blend the three successfully must be an art.

A lot of tech has rolled off the line in the last 25 years. Good time to be a cyclist! My first bike was a Trek 7000 mtn bike.

My wife has been a triathlete since 2008. Most of her friends are Tri geeks which means i'm part tri geek by association. lol

Between the wife and I, we have 7 bikes. Hers: Race, road, trainer, mtn. His: Road, trainer, mtn. I just picked up road biking in Dec 2015.

What have you ridden over the years?

I somehow downsized to 2 bikes and somehow didn't spontaneously combust, so that's encouraging. I do have an open req on replacing a recently sold Tarmac though, I might have the aero bug. For now I have a crash rig Specialized Allez and a CruX to pretend to CX on, until I get another road bike added.

Thumbs up

Former cyclist here but only because I got tired of being yelled at for riding a bike in the street, having random stuff thrown at me, run off the road, etc., and I ride in the gutter and stop at all stop signs and signals. The most law-abiding cyclist ever. Go figure.

I'm keen to renew my cycling however, after I move down to San Deigo county this month...the landscape and weather here are prime for the sport.

Mishmash of everything. I'm not very brand loyal. For road bikes - Look, Specialized, Ridley, Velo Vie, Williams, Bianchi, Orbea. Mountain bikes - Litespeed and Giant. Track - Bianchi. Cross - Bianchi, Ellsworth, Specialized.

I used to be very in to one-off everything. Zipp Vuma Quad crank, Zero G brakes, blah blah. There is a definite downside to that stuff. Probably why I've kept it simple with my car.

Lol. I didn't ride at all for a 2 year stretch and was down to 2 bikes. Started riding again, got the bug again, and now it seems to be creeping up. I'm sure it will stay at 4. Pretty sure.

Subbed. I'm an ex-citizen-racer-turned-ultradistance-junkie and I think I just kind of got burned out. Met my wife on a century ride so we're both cyclists. We're starting to get back into it a bit lately. Our stuff is all 80's and early 90's, lots of Columbus tubing and Campagnolo jewelry. Even friction shifters. I sometimes think about getting something modern but I don't ride enough to justify it. If anything, assuming we both keep riding more, I'll drop some coin on the tandem and outfit it with better gearshifting gizmos - and *ahem* some lower lows. Ain't geting any younger...
