I grew up in the area(before people started calling it DMV) have not been back in a long time.

was telling my buddy there about my plan to drive up there. he advised me NOT to drive my nicer cars... (I have a 540i and a M2... as well as an old Sienna minivan)

Depends where you go. Northern VA is fine. I don't personally drive in DC but half of that reason is it's terrible for traffic and parking, other half is even congress members are getting car jacked these days.

More danger driving a Toyota, Honda, Hyundai or Kia, if you’re worried about getting carjacked. Otherwise, don’t behave like a mark, and you won’t be a mark.

I’m in the city, in my car, 2-3 days a week, in NE and SE.

Closest I’ve come to being carjacked in the DMV was 2021 in Alexandria City, middle of the day, d*ckin’ around on my phone, like a mark.

IME it’s much more related to opportunity than locality.

Yeah, Alexandria is actually rather bad these day with car jackings as well. Supposedly, it's due to the proximity to the bridge into Maryland and law makers failing the people.

M2 is my daily driver and probably considered pedestrian. Parking is more a problem if you’re worried about door dings.

My friend gave me the best answer when he said this to me:

"if you want to avoid getting carjacked, you should have bought your M2 with manual transmission!"

(sad but mostly true)
