My owner's gripes after 4K miles.
As you've seen from my posts, I've been running my car hard the last 4K miles. I made a thread about my initial impressions at 1200 miles, so I thought I would toss up my gripes as well.
These are really nit picky, and, probably nothing new. A lot of us share the same gripes. 1) I cannot believe I can't connect the "sport" display to the M buttons. BIG FUCKIN MISS BMW. I hope you're watching/reading, and can push and over the air update to fix this mistake. 2) Apparently you cannot disable certain driver assistance functions without setting up a profile both in the car and the app. I haven't done the app yet but another member reports this works. Case in point, I don't need my car to remind me to take a brake, yet I cannot permanently disable this alert without setting up these profiles. 3) There is an overall ID8 lag. Nothing drastic, again, this is nit picky. However, for example, when I'm listening to my preset stations, if I press the scroll wheel to bring up the list to change stations, it takes a two count to come up. Again, nit picky. Definitely first world problem. This one or two count lag is experienced by me throughout the system, including when speaking commands to the car. 4) Android Auto randomly disconnects and reconnects. This has happened only a handful of times, and I'm not sure who is the blame..., ID8 or AA, but about 5-6 times now, it just disconnects itself. Fortunately, it reconnects. 5) I still don't know what that stupid exhaust button does, and I see we're still debating it on the forum. It should be simply exhaust valves open, or exhaust valves close. Come on BMW. 6) Why am I limited to two gauge displays? Why aren't there multiple factory gauge set ups, or, better yet, why can't I customize my own? 7) The sport seats aren't that comfortable. I finally did find a reasonably comfortable position (doesn't hurt lower back or neck) following the BMW driver school advice, but I have to stop every hour or two to stretch. That's just me though, of course. The seats aren't all that comfortable for a long drive. Short sprints, and up to an hour or two, yes, they're great. That said, I'm not sure any car is that comfortable after sitting for a couple hours. Again, nit picky. 8) I have discovered that regardless of how well you wash/dry the car, black streaks will emanate from the rocker panel body panels. Probably due to brake dust getting in there and then running out after a wash. 9) Another member posted a discernable difference between "comfort" and "sport" brakes, but I can't tell the difference. I just leave it in comfort. 10) The owners manual shows a left knee cubby, but my car doesn't have a left knee cubby. WTF!? 11) I can't NOT rub my leg on the rocker panel body kit when getting in. Thank goodness it's PPF'ed. That's it, I think. I reserve the right to bitch as I put miles on her. A bonus PLUS: I love the fact that they included a high powered USB-C port in the center console. Charges my phone fast. What are your grips? PS: Note, none of my gripes are about the performance. I am tickled pink with the performance.

For number 2, if you're driving a long time, a little chime comes up suggesting a break, it allows you to ignore it the rest of the drive. You can disable that somewhere in idrive8, but it reenables itself. Another user in my 1200 mile thread said that this stuff can be made permanent by setting up a profile in the phone app. I haven't confirmed myself yet. Maybe tomorrow.

The sport brake setting just seems to change when the brakes start to engage. In comfort, there is a very small dead space in the first part of the pedal motion. In Sport it engages the moment any pressure is applied to the pedal. Otherwise very similar, but just seems to change the engagement point.
The benefit of the earlier engagement is that you can move from throttle to brake a fraction of a second quicker, which could be material on the track or a really aggressive backroad drive. I find it tougher to rev match with sport brakes though since the M2’s pedals are spaced further apart and it takes a bit more throttle to raise engine RPMs compared to some other cars. Still nice to have the option. -Nick |

Think that's rubber dust. My 996 Turbo was real bad about collecting that. The M2 has an aerodynamic shape that creates a big low pressure area immediately behind the car and rubber dust collecting mainly on the rear bumper is the result.
Rubber dust not so bad here (Benton County, AR) but was real bad in the SF Bay Area especially on I580 the stretch I drove M-F from Livermore CA to Hayward CA and back again -- my work commute. That road carried not only a huge number of passenger vehicles but heavy trucks, too. |

So. Much. Brake. Dust.
But I will say, I tried a different wheel cleaner last night, some Turtle Wax Hybrid something or other with iron remover, and it along with a pressure washer does the trick, no more trying to shove a wash mitt into every goddamn nook and cranny on the wheels. |

Also, gloss black plastic on the exterior of cars needs to go away and never come back.

I tried the profile thing.
I’ve stopped using it since it asks for a 4 digit pin every time I start the car. Don’t have time for that. |

I was hoping that with the carbon fiber interior trim, that there wouldn't be any piano black, but nope, there's a couple of pieces of piano black and they're already looking scratched.

For no. 10) I know they removed this starting with MY2023 2 series models as a cost cutting feature I know that for sure as my MY2023 m240i doesnt have it either but the MY2022 models have them ... it seems they just didnt update it in owner's manuals yet. |

After 1264 miles my gripes are as follows.
I too have no idea what the exhaust button does. Maybe it's to pump in the ADS? I was hoping that it would be a true exhaust flap button, but I have it set to "on" when I have M1 engaged so I don't really know. I do wish that the car was indeed louder. When I cold started by F87C, I feel like it had a louder tone to it and in M2 (mode), it felt like it was louder. Maybe the motor will open up more the more I drive it? You are also 100% correct on point 1, although I don't mind the normal display, I do wish that I could connect the sport display with the M1 button. Oh well, it's just a button and a knob twist away. If we're talking nit picky gripes, mine is the "sport display". This setting shows the HP and TQ in real time. It's dumb in the G87 (two small bars inside the driver's gage instead of two large dials on the screen like the F87C). I wish it was like the F87C, it was easy to read and fun to watch, would rather have that in the "Sport display." And of course the ingress and egress on the carbon buckets but hey, that's to be expected and at this point, I don't really care anymore.

I installed the Dahler exhaust flap controller for little extra sound as I knew I’m not gonna be changing the exhaust system. It’s just right for me.
