Full body repaint
OK, I don't know anything about full repainting. So please educate me as to what's even possible.
I'd like to someday repaint my incoming G87 to one of these colors, in orders of preference:
And yes, those first two are Mazda paints, I know. So first, is this even a thing that can be done? Assuming it is, what would be a rough cost. Ballparking is fine. Thanks! Last edited by Squidget; 04-19-2023 at 01:09 PM.. |

Probably best for a bodyman to respond but for a high quality paint job it would be $5k minimum, realistically probably closer to $10k or even higher especially if you want it perfect (which would probably involve removing the engine). Location does factor in. A lot that goes into it, trim removal, stripping the old paint, dent removal if needed at the time, etc. But it’s certainly possible, no reason it wouldn’t be. You do kill resale value so you need to factor that in if you don’t plan on keeping the car forever. I’m also not a big fan of the idea of a bodyman tearing apart a new BMW but I suppose if you find the right one…
Honestly after all is said and done you’d have been better off buying an M3/M4 with an individual paint job from the factory. Why not wrap it? Last edited by BigBart33; 04-19-2023 at 05:18 AM.. |

Yeah, a quality paint job is probably going to be quite pricey, $10k+ (and this is based off of pricing years ago). Of course, someone will do it on the cheap, but you get what you pay for. Wrapping isnt cheap, either. Younwill be north of $5k for a good wrap. |

Thanks to all of you for replying! I've learned a lot.
For various reasons, an M4 wasn't really on the table for me, and I didn't want an M3. (Individual paint would have been great, although BMW doesn't have anything like Artisan Red IMO.) Cost isn't so much a factor, and I could justify $10K because I plan to own it forever. But physically tearing apart the car is something I wouldn't want to do. I don't want to risk long term rattles and other problems. So I think I'll keep the original color for now, and see what the LCI brings. With luck, they'll retain the 6MT in the LCI and give us more options. I don't honestly expect that, but one can hope! Thanks again everyone! Edit: and I'll look at wraps, too thanks for that tip. |

Not recommended and wraps are temporary, and they need to remove emblems, trim, etc. if you want a quality job. My advice is wait until they come out with more colors or look at other cars if you need something now.

Oh, I don't need it. The G87 is the CAR I want, no other. I'm not giving up this car for the sake of the color. I just wanted to explore the options.

If you are willing to do it right like IND then go for it. If you are masking parts instead of removing them the don't.

Personally, I wouldn't repaint a brand new car with anything less than a Wayne Carini-level job, which is gonna cost 5 figures - meaning financially impractical and imprudent. If you must change colors, I highly recommend just wrapping it.
