The Beginning Of More Horsepower - Where To Start ?

And what are the basics ?

This is my first BMW , and my first turbo car. I am very happy with the car currently, but I know that in the future, I will want to modify the car to reach it's potential.

I currently have a AA catted downpipe, and plan on adding a cattback soon - which I already know , only provides minimal gains.

I don't plan on ever going with a piggyback "tune" such as JB4 etc.

Would getting the FEMTO unlock, which I plan to do, be the first step?
Then, getting a larger turbo after that ?

I understand that the more power you add, that you'll need to upgrade the transmission, fuel delivery, heads, intake manifold, etc etc.

But just starting out, should I be focused on the FEMTO, ECU program, and a larger turbo ?

And I realize that only running 91 Octane fuel, I should still only expect to run roughly 500whp or so.

So, for starters, would the FEMTO unlock, and a custom / OTS Tune yield significant results ? With the stock turbo still in place ?

For example : Paul Johnson Tunes.

Another question - Once I purchase a custom tune, if I add more modifications later on, does the tuner revise the tune ? Or would I need to pay the tuner again for more services ?

Yes,yes,yes and yes.

I am on only a JB4 right now and there is a noticeable power gain. From my previous experiences flashing my stage 2 N55 335i the difference is substantial and i was running an OTS map. You should expect your power to be around 430 to 450 whp from a flash and a downpipe running 91 oct.

Very nice, thank you. That might be a great starting point for now.

I believe stock, we are running about 380 to the wheels roughly. And the car feels pretty good.

So with having only the most basic of mods - a downpipe and a cattback, would I be able to just purchase an OTS 91 Octane Stage 1 directly from BootMod3, without a 3rd party middleman ?

After completing the Femto DME unlock of course.

So after some additional research, it appears with the high flow downpipe, I would be able to run the OTS 91 Octane Stage 2 Flash.

Which is a bit more power than the Stage 1.

And that's pretty much it for these levels. The next stage of progression would be upgrading the turbo, increasing fuel capabilities, intake manifold etc.

Since you are in Vegas, you have access to E85 which will allow a lot more power

That's right, I hadn't really considered that.

To run E85 safely and maintain the reliability of the car, I would need what hardware ?

FlexFuel kit, and fuel sensors ?

Would I need to make any changes to the injectors ... or spark plugs ?

Depends on the mix, you can do E30 without needing any hardware

that said, i recommend you get the PTF flex kit to know your mix. Vegas E85 mix varies wildly from one season to the other so keep that in mind.
