All of the cars at the top of their list are phenomenal cars and all should be celebrated as such. Whatever goes into your selection process, you can't go wrong with any of them.
Totally agree. I have only driven the G87 (M6) on the street and loved it. Felt instantly comfortable in it. I didn't like the long, somewhat rubbery feel of the G87 manual as much as the Tremec on my 1LE, but it was still fine and fun.

I did order the G87 in ZF8. I'm sure I'll miss the manual, but looking forward for the better visibility and ergonomics of the G87.

Completely agree with you G87, SS1LE, Cayman GTS, C8, F87CS, etc, all the cars being discussed here are awesome vehicles.

I still think in terms of bang for the buck the G87 and SS1LE are top of the class. A ton of value for the $$$ if you want a good dual duty street/track car.

I missed that part, sorry about that. Still it shows how little advantage the ZL1 has over the SS (and M2) despite aero and a lot more power.

Clearly their track doesn't reward horsepower if aero and 190 bhp only pulls 0.4 seconds from the lap time (SS vs ZL1). There probably isn't much accelerating on that track so you are right that it is all down to the corners.

Absolutely! I have been interested in getting a 1LE for a long time, but as a Get Xer my wife has too many recollections of Fox bodies and IROC-Zs from her teenage years....makes it difficult to sell her on getting anything named Camaro. :P

Oh well, at least BMW has a real alternative.

It is hard for some f87 owner to accept the reality that their is m2 available which is better than their m2. So to keep themself happy they pretend to hate new g87.

What a stupid statement!. This is exactly the type of insecure childishness that is designed to do nothing but start trouble & does nothing but reflect badly on fellow G87 owners.
I think you will find many G87 owners/potential owners are actually ex F87 owners. I for one am an F87 owner & one of the only cars I would currently consider updating it to is the G87 so am very interested in sensible owner feedback, reviews, new model release news etc. Go elsewhere if you wish to stir shit, no room for that type of behaviour here regardless of what you own !.

It doesn't weigh 4,000 lbs. BMW lists the curb for the auto at 3,814 lbs. IND put their 6MT on a scale with gas at 3/4 and it weighed 3,758 lbs with standard seats and carbon roof.

The G87 is a better car performance wise and tech wise.
The F87 is still a good car performance wise but is now old gen by virtue of the G87 being its successor.

Looks are subjective. Comments on looks are opinions, and just that. Some of us love it, some of us don't, as is with everything else in life.

Driving dynamics are subjective. A great example is Thomas v James - former loves his BMWs and the latter his Audis.

Does the G87 have its flaws? Ofcourse. Does the F87 have its flaws? Ofcourse. I don't believe anyone here has ever said the G87 is the best car in the world PERIOD and the same with the F87.

The purpose of this forum is to discuss the car - and along with, anything negative and/or positive said about the car, and one's opinion about it. Beyond that, each to their own. The bashing needs to stop. As long as it doesn't, the defense will continue - it's only normal to want to defend something you believe to be inaccurate.

The last I will say about this.
I haven’t but I will.
The G87 M2 is the best car in the world, period.

Wait, wait. Back up. Forget about the G87, I want to talk about this now. I found absolutely nothing to love about the A45 and I want to start a flamewar about how terrible it is, especially its infotainment system.

Just kidding, it's fine.

My A45 was my daily, it was fantastic in this role & I would place the RS3 in this vein also.
The M2 on the other hand is far more focused & an ideal track car/club car (especially once modified), something I think neither the AMG or Audi perform very well.
The only real alternative I see to a new M2 is a Cayman GTS & the P car is way more expensive here.

On the topic of F87 laptimes, you can’t forget Thomas owns an F87.
His laptimes with any F87 (OG, C or CS) are going to be quicker than with another car he doesn’t know well.

Remember, by their own rules, each car is on track for 1 warm up lap, 3 hot laps, and 1 cool down lap.

How many hot laps has he taken in the car he owns?

It’s a known fact drivers need time to learn the cars/tracks. He’s mastered the F87. So anyone can say, for example, that an M2 CS would not have been quicker than the next car down, had the reviewer owned that car instead.

I owned an f87 (M2C manual). My friend got a g87 manual and I have driven it few times incl a track day. I traded in my M2C last year for a 911c2s manual. I feel f87 is simple, nimble and fun; I do have regrets for not keeping it and if I could go back in time I will keep it .
Saying that G87 is great in its own regard, it’s a more modern car and it’s able to put power down much more efficiently than F87. I remember once in my f87, I took a spirited turn and I was lucky I didn’t die, since then I have been very careful when I take turns in f87. With G87 torque release is much more efficient- it’s not giving you too much torque/power at lower gear/rpm that vehicle can’t handle. So it’s a more efficient power modern m car with more safe power release but lesser playfulness than F87.

My thought is if you don’t have an M car and want one get the G87 now. It’s such a nice one and you won’t regret. But if you already have one, say an f87, then wait till new M2C comes (but not sure it will have MT ).

Such travesty slapping a slow shifting slushbox in what should be a "motorsport" inspired car. DCT is dearly missed!

Modern automatics simply shift faster than a manual and have extra gears to work with to be in the optimal RPM range.

Put an auto and a manual version of the same car with the same tires and the same driver on the same day with the same track conditions and the auto will likely have a faster lap time.

I've been cross shopping between the RS3 and G87 M2. I may be a minority but I actually like the looks of the M2 better. After owning 2 tuned S3s,( I know not the same as an RS3) The M2 style of performance is what I'm looking for. More exciting with soul. Also the auto makes more sense due to the gearing and quicker shifts.

So managed to get a #1 spot at 2 different dealers after selling my 981 Cayman S. Now just waiting on an allocation. However I think production is about to slow or stop for the 2024 models. Was hoping to have it for the Sumner but now looks like winter. Ugh. Toronto red with carbon roof and interior. Carbon ducktail spoiler and mirror caps.
