If You Switched From BMW, Where Would You Go?
Thread title really says it all.
I owned an E90 335i, and though I absolutely loved the car and BMW, ended up buying a new car from a different brand. Nothing personal, just a matter of circumstances and opportunity. So I wonder, if you were making the switch out of BMW, what brand would you look to? Just hop over to M-B or Audi? Or would you go in a totally different direction and go up- or down-market? This is assuming you were using vehicles in your current capacity, of course. Interested in hearing the results. Last edited by FriskyDingo; 03-25-2016 at 11:38 AM.. |

The most "logical" choice like you said would be to jump ship to BMW or Audi, which makes sense as they are direct competitors. Browsing through the forums though, it looks like a lot of people are making the leap into a P-car instead. When I got rid of my BMW a few months ago, the Cayman S or a base 991 911 was high on the list. Ended up going for the C7 Corvette though, as all the current offerings from the other side of the pond just doesn't do it for me and the P-car was way overpriced for what you get. Does that count as up- or down- market?
A poll would be interesting to see. |

P-car. All modern cars, including Porsche, are getting big, heavy, and full of tech -- but I think at a slower pace than the others.

Frisky, what kind of car did you get?
I'd consider Mini Cooper, Audi A3. MB c-class coupe (2017), also thought a base Honda Pilot in black w/black wheels and roof rack would be fun. Though I'm getting very high reliability and refinement from my 2-series, so... |

I have a weekend BMW but my daily is a Cadillac ATS. Actual purchase price was significantly cheaper, I really liked the driving dynamics (RWD with LSD, Magnetic ride, Brembos, forged/staggered wheels, etc.), plan on keeping it until 150k miles and thought long term costs are likely much lower than BMW. Two years in still very happy with my decision. I like BMW's but am not so attached that they don't get compared to the others.

For the record, I went with a new GTI w/ Perf Pkg. But my driving needs changed some from when I had my E90. So I guess I went down-market.
If I were staying with something in the same genre though, I think I'd go with Audi right now. If I can't have that trademark BMW edge that was present in older models, I'd at least opt for the better interiors and AWD of the Audis. I wouldn't rule out a new M2 or a CPO M3 in the next few years, though. |

A few I am considering.
BMW X5 M if I can justify its price tag to the wife. New 5 Series GXX Audi S7 I actually the new Lexus GSF but at 85-87k would never.. now if it was 65k And out of left field...... the new Ford Raptor has truly piqued my interest as well. Love my M4 and gonna enjoy it to the fullest. but without a doubt going 4 doors next time. but I have 2 years left on my lease.. so not going anywhere anytime soon. would love a P car but don't want another coupe and not a fan of the Panamera styling nor do I want a Cayenne or Macan

BMW currently doesn't make a car that I could upgrade to so the only alternatives left are AMG and Porsche if I wanted a German car. So since I love BMW so much I kept my 6er as my DD and bought an SL63 with the AMG performance pack - 664 lbft of torque and a luxurious top down experience with an AMG soundtrack blasting behind my ears was enough to swing me away from an R8 V10 Spyder, 911 turbo cabriolet and CPO California T.
My next car later this year will also be an AMG - a CPO SLS. Too bad they don't make them anymore, because I think the GTS and other newer Mercs look like melting jelly beans. I'm also really interested in the Viper GTS (mainly because of the long hood, 8.4 V10 and manual transmission) but I've got my heart set on the SLS for now. I really wish BMW would offer the i8 with a twin turbo S85 V10 and call it an M8 instead of focusing so much on FWD economy cars. I'd buy such a car in a heartbeat. But I won't get into that again as it already got me banned once. Who says you can't love both BMW and Mercedes |

That is a great idea. Regardless my vote would be Jaguar F-type or Austin Martin.

dumped the F10 M5 2 yrs ago into a Porsche Macan Turbo and now I am about to dump that and waiting for either Porsche Panny (new gen) or MB E63 wagon (new gen).
The F10 M5 did not really lived up to my expectation as what a M5 ought to be. The only bright point of the car was just awesome power. |

Huracan or GT3 RS for a sports car
Panamera or full AMG E-Class for a sedanish car. I can't see driving any normal BMW or even MBZ. I thought the last 5 series that I drove had a broken suspension until I maxed out the performance parameters and at that point it was still too soft. Oh. I will never give up my 328d. You'll have to drag my corpse from the drivers seat after you pry my hands off the steering wheel. Stellar car!! |
