Seatbelt/ Leather Wear

I just happened to notice this today getting into the car. Our seatbelts destroy the leather on the seats/ trim over time. This will look awful in a few years 🙄

For reference: I have a 2023 model, about to hit 30k miles

Thank me later.

OP what’s your height and weight? I wonder if this is due to having the seat close up? Maybe a larger person would have seat further back and chest would push belt forward, thus preventing lots of contact of belt and seat.

I have a feeling it's from pulling the belt to actually buckle up.

Agreed. I checked mine yesterday while driving. I have 2-3 inches of clearance while driving. I’m 6’1”

i try not to let the seat belt rub against the seat leather when i put on and remove the belt. that said, I also use leathermaster leather protectant on the seats , with extra coats on high wear panels like the one you pointed out.

i think there are other leather coating products you could try too.

I checked mine this morning & the belt doesn't come anywhere close to the seat when I'm putting it on/ taking it off or while driving.

Same. I’m curious what the height of this person is because I’m 5’8” and the belt never touches that area

I’m 5’8 as well. I think it comes down to driving position of the seat, I can get it to not touch if I recline the seat back

if you are worried about it long term and plan on keeping the car, snag some brand new seat covers and keep them stored until needed. seat covers are ultimately a wear and tear item on most vehicles.

thanks to your warning, i ordered some soft material seat belt shoulder pads and slide it up against the affected leather section.

Hope you find a good leather touch up service to take care of it for you.
