M2 vs M240

I know this is the M2 forum and the answer probably is get the M2 if you can. But hear me out on my goals.

Currently in a Jeep Cherokee, which may stay in the lineup as utility.

My goal and purpose of either car would be a 3-4 year daily driver. At some point put a stage 1 or 2 with ethanol. In 3-4 years the plan would be to build the engine, trans and have as close to 1000 hp but still be reliable.

This will be for back road driving as well as highway pulls. Drag strip isnt a big deal as there are only 1/8 mile tracks near me and the 1/4 mile are over an hour to get to.

The main thing I know is a plus on the M2 over the M240 would be the carbon package but a lot even down to the color I can get on either. While the purple on the M240 is a bit darker, I like the M2 one as well.

In terms of cost it would be $62k vs $82k, both are in the budget.

$82k must be every option - assume you are doing carbon buckets? I'm at $70k with carbon roof

Anyway, imo the S58 is the clear choice (especially modded) over the B58. You can wait for the xdrive version if awd is important - it's not for me (at least right now, that could change, I generally prefer rwd cars)

I came from a 2023 RS3, the TTRS is fun (maybe a little too "cute") but never impressed me that much on a roadcourse - before that I owned an FD RX-7 for 18 years

Reading is fundamental, but thanks for the input. I said as close to as possible so it’s building it and keeping the reliability. So if 800 is the number then that’s what it’ll be etc. etc..

Honestly, it’s the carbon pact that puts the price up there. I can’t believe they’re still forcing you to do that M drivers package thing where you gotta pay for the track day. Besides that I have like the premium package or whatever it was Adaptive cruise control remote start And the twilight purple is a 3K option.

And yeah, I’m not sure if you saw my post before I edited it. I did mention the TRS was one of my considerations. But I’ve had an Audi before I’ve never had a BMW so I wanted to try something different. Plus, I seen that these cars can handle, crazy amount of power without touching the engine and trans is the point which is cheaper to deal with. I will drive is really nice for the track and dig races but honestly I love just getting on the highway and killing it plus doing back road cruises and stuff like that .

My thought is look at what Jackie Ding is doing . Many more are as well and it’s getting documented on here, IG, Facebook etc. I gotta believe (could be wrong) the M2 platform will provide more real world experience so you can better build once. No need to experiment, BAMM you get your reliability
There’s also the M cachet which I look forward to joining for the first time.

With the kind of power you plan on tuning it to you really need AWD to put it down. Because of that the only viable option as of now would be the M240i. M2 with xDrive is still a couple of years away.

Tbh, what's the point of "close to 1,000 hp" for back road driving & highway pulls? Unless you're John Force or Randy Probst, 500 hp is more than enough for your intended use. Neither car is designed for that kind of power, and if you can drive them stock at even 7-8/10 of their capability, you should be looking at different cars.

Never understood why people say that. No one needs any car over a used civic. It's all wants and personal preference.

I bought both. Go for it. Best of both worlds. I like the M240 for a daily and the M2 for fun Friday’s/Weekend runs.

But the Cayman might be a better choice if you just want one car that gets the job done🤪

Happy Motoring!

LOL the dream garage is M2/M240/TT RS for a built car, 911 for daily and Cayman for weekends.
It's hilarious though as a friend said the same thing, get both

I wish I could wait. I'm looking to have a new car in April and that would make it 2 years in the Jeep so I am itching for a fun car. I can't wait that long

The GT3 T or S/T is next. But need to save some more pennies… I’m good for now😘

M240 vs M2. Can’t go wrong. I only bought the M2 for the 6-spd manny but whatever.

Sell the M240&M2 for the M2 CS. That’s cool. AWD+Slush Box. I can dig it. Remember, u gotta love what u drive.

Cheers!

It was a question. What's the point of 1,000 hp for your intended use? Can you drive the car 10/10 of its capability stock at 500 hp? If so, find a better car that is designed for higher hp output. People constantly come on car forums saying I need 600 hp, 800 hp... when they most likely can't handle 350 hp. The fact is you're not using any more of the car on back roads at 1k hp than you are at 500 hp. That's all.

If it's just I want 1,000 hp to brag I have 1,000 hp. So be it.

B58s are stout motors and theres definitely a few over 1,000 hp already. sounds like thats what you want. RS3 would be a good choice too if your main concern is tuning it to silly quick 1/4 mile times.

you're in TN- you'll have lots of fun hills and backroads like i do near me. i have zero desire to add more power to this car for fucking around at 6-7/10ths. do i sometimes with i had a little more for HPDEs? yeah, but thats like <2% of the miles i put on the car. just be honest with yourself about how you will use it and what will bring you the most enjoyment to your daily routine.

best advice here so far. its YOUR car and YOU need to love it- or it'll be out the door and you'll be spending even MORE money. people rarely seem to have a good grasp on a) what they like in a car and b) what they need in a car, especially enthusiasts. we like to overthink things

Sometimes I wonder if peeps start these types of threads to troll pro. But it’s just sometimes. They prolly rookies. Buy the car you want. Then drive the piss out of it before you mod to 1000 hp. The M2 is a beast. 453 hp my arse. It’s a great M car. If you have one you know and you should be happy you have one. Cheers!
