"Irish singer and activist Sinéad O'Connor has died at the age of 56"

Known for her single "Nothing Compares 2 U," written by Prince.

Also known for tearing up a picture of the Pope on SNL.

Shocking - as she was just putting out music (I'll hold off on stating if any of it was good).

And while odd when she did rip up the Pope John Paul's picture, who really knew at the time that she was more in the right?

EDIT: in looking at Wiki, little bit of an estranged story with Prince, who did write her only hit.

Can't really say I was a fan but her song did go to number 1 around the world.

She had a song “I Want Your Hands On Me” in a Freddy Krueger Movie “Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master.” Me and my kids were fans of the Freddy movies.

Although it's never good form to diss the dead, she was an odd bird. Even by Irish standards. And I did enjoy some of her music.

56 is far to young to die. Father passed at 54 and I am happy to say I out lived him, I am 56.

Don't think I'd consider ‘decent’ and ‘world number 1 song’ in the same ballpark.

Like I said, not really a fan and personally, didn't like the song. Maybe I’m the odd bird since it did go to number 1.

Always sad when anyone dies at such a young(ish) age, she changed her name to Shuhada Sadaqat in 2018 and with her son committing suicide after running away from a hospital I guess she went downhill quickly.

In 2017, she changed her legal name to Magda Davitt, a name she took to be "free of parental curses." She changed her name again in 2018 to Shuhada' Davitt, after announcing her conversion to Islam following a series of posts at the time that included O'Connor singing the Islamic call to prayer.

Honestly, I never listened to her, so it doesn't really make a difference to me either. Lots of people die everyday, she's just another one to me.
