Well, this is interesting. I noticed the tread the wraps around to the sidewall of this tire looked odd and I didn't see the typical Michelin banner. So I zoomed in and adjust the lighting to check it out and also potentially read the tire size. Unfortunately it's not clear enough to see the aspect ratio, but I was surprised to see this car is running Yokohama tires. I hope this isn't one of the tire brands that makes it to production.

P.S. You can also see the wimpy floating caliper.

This M2 has all the performance parts on it. Only thing I can think of is they may have teamed up with Yokohama to make a specific performance tire. Still weird, everyone knows Michelin is the M go to tire and BMW already has a well established relationship with them.

I just hope the car I get comes with MPS4S and not Conti's or Yoko-ohh-no's.

Is that tire size for just the MPP wheels or will every model get that?

Only MPP, lemetier told us that the M2 will have the same tire dimensions as the M3/M4 in the “I saw the M2…” thread. Still massive tires for this little car especially in the front. It sounds like it could inherit or even exceed on the impressive front end characteristics from it’s larger sibling

This car is going to be a beast, the tires are even wider than the Supra.

Is there any reasonable explanation for the floating calipers…other than cost? Shocked it's on a modern m car. And as for cost…give me a break! Like how much are they saving? And again..it's an m car..would ppl walk away from one because it's $xx more without them? Such a joke. And now talk of Yokohama?.. who comes up with this shit..

*sorry poochie. Couldn't resist. Aside from the apprehension I have for the rear look of the car (tbd), those calipers have been my biggest gripe thus far.

LOL, it's all good bro, never mind my shit-talking, speak your mind; your money, your choice..

However, I really believe it boils down to the Benjamins..

Reading between the lines of the video I linked, the BMW engineer stated that they didn't want to spend the resources to design a proper caliper from scratch, since there wasn't yet available on the market that they could simple grab off the shelf that works in conjunction with e-brakes and just throw it on..

Personally, I believe it's a cop-out, considering what they charge per vehicle but it's what it is..

Unfortunately it won't get the Michelin Pilot Sport 5S. BMW starts working with tire manufacturers soon after the start of a project and all throughout driving and track testing to refine them. Since the MPS5S wasn't available at the start of the project the G87 will not get them. You can look at the F87 as an example, it came with MPSS and that was the official OE tire throughout the life of the car, including the Competition model.

I know it sucks, but the MPS4S is still a great tire... if you get them, lol.

Disappointing but that makes sense. The latest spy shots look like PS4's which I think we'd all be happy with.
