Dropcam?

Anyone use these in your home/apt/work place?

How do you like them?

I have two dropcams and I love them. I have one covering our main floor and another in my daughters room. We actually caught our nanny doing a less than stellar job so it paid for itself instantly.

It's a great product for a stellar price.

Nice! I'm getting a couple of them, anxious to set them up.

Setup is ridiculously easy as well.

It's great for parents. This morning my wife was talking to our daughter from Italy through the camera. It's pretty wild.

I have a six camera HD setup at my house, but chose not to go the Dropcam route due to the monthly fees.

If you're going to buy several and run storage on all of them, dropcams don't make much sense. However, if you just need a single camera, it's a pretty good deal.

Another thing to consider is the massive amount of bandwidth they take up. Six of them streaming to the cloud would shut down most residential networks.

Understandable. I only need it to run when the nanny is there. So I should be good.

I have 2 foscams and LOVE them. They can pan and tilt almost 360 degrees. Also have 2 way audio (although that part doesn't work that great) and infrared for night time viewing. I can monitor them from my phone or browser and I also have them setup to email me images when any motion is detected during the hours I'm not home. If you want to get geekier I also have them start uploaded images every second to my server once they detect movement. There is also no on going fees.

Ditto. We use them to keep an eye on the cats when we're gone so we know the cat sitters have been there.

I need a surveillance camera suggestion for my garage driveway. I have been looking at dropcam but you have to pay a hefty price to store the footage on the cloud.

Those seem pretty nice! I already ordered a couple dropcam pro's. I'm may return them within 30days and try out the piper brand.

Be advised... I installed a foscam in the garage and it destroyed garage door opener range. May need to disable wifi and use wired but did not have additional time to experiment.

Might want to investigate powerline networking for that cam. I've used it between the shed and the house for a cam I used to have out there.

When I saw this post I was thinking about buying one of these, since it appear to be what I been looking for, until I learn this weekend that Google bought them. This just gives google another view into your every day life. You can image their app on your phone advertising to you base on what is going on in your house. As someone above said about their Nanny, the app would come up and asking if your need a new Nanny.

Scary. Would be interesting to read the updated "fine print" now that Dropcam was bought by Google....

If you read their website, they said that Nest bought them, they are obviously concerned about google's name being associated with them. nest has been fighting the whole Google thing, they keep coming out and saying that they are their own company and Google will not have any say over what they do.

Well where is Nest get $550M in cash, since google bought them out with stock and the cash when to their Private Equity investors. I do not trust google, with any of my personal stuff.

At least Bing is willing to pay you to use their search tool, so they sharing their revenue with you unlike google.

Would you trust these guys?
