Who says Stealerships steal...

So my Starter was out and supposedly I was supposed to pick it up at the dealer yesterday around 5 O'clock. But then around 4:40 right before my ride is there to get me I get a call from the dealership. It is saying that the aftermarket mechanical coverage on my car will cover the starter but now they are saying they do not want to cover the OEM part that was already put in. I said I will not be paying the difference. They rightfully agreed it was their fault and and they would pay (probably because when I talked to them at 7 in the mourning they said I would only be paying the 250 dollar deductible.) Obviously it was pretty much their fault but they fessed up real quick and I was on my way.

Because the stealership messed up by not getting the work/part/price approved from your aftermarket warranty you think your stealership doesn't steal? Ok, looks like you are the one that learns by placing your hand in the fire to understand that the fire is hot. I am going to say this once. The fire is hot, don't place your hand in there. Look for a reputable BMW Indy.

I don't think you can generalize they steal or not.. I am totally happy with two of the three BMW dealerships here in Vancouver, BC. Auto West & Brian Jessel have replaced parts on my car and my two prev E90 free of charge even though they could not replicate error codes.
Most notably a month ago Auto West had my car in for regular scheduled maintenance and I told them about my passenger door speaker that crackles from time to time and a rough idle I've had happen a couple times in the past four months. They couldn't replicate either but put in a new speaker and walnut blasted my intake valves anyways. They definitely have a returning customer in me!

Let us know how you feel about the dealer after your original warranty expires.

+1,000. Exactamundo. Under warranty, dealerships just love to walnut blast for "free", because it's easy $ for them (BMW pays for it). After that, it's probably about $600 out of pocket, and a tough sell. And don't forget the bimmertax on any OEM parts bought through the stealership. They want a repeat customer like you to love them during warranty... don't worry, they'll make up the cost of that speaker on your first or second service after warranty.

I agree. Under warranty its all good. But I ve seen their prices when it is out of your own pocket and they are crazy.

160 for an oil change? , 230 for a coolant flush?

I can get both done for 180 at one of the most reputable shops in ontario.
