Seems overpriced when you can get the kit from Underground Euros for 130.

I have not seen how bmw's halogen lights look like but if bmw's engineers didn't install them then they don't belong there, but who am I to argue...

I could be wrong but I thought HID was for projectors only. Halogens are placed in reflectors. My understanding was that HID in a reflector was way too bright. The point of the projector was to cut off some of the excess light.

That being said, has anyone retrofit a projector to the F30? Sounds like you'd have to take apart the housing to do it.

you are wrong, there are HID/xenon lights in projector housings (Acura is the one that comes to mind) The bulbs however are different, D2R is usually indicative of reflective xenon lights where as D2S are for projectors.
