HSBC is also good because you can just go to an ATM in most countries where HSBC is active and just take out local currency.

He was saying go to the bank that you use not his bank. They typically won't charge you anything as far as fees for the exchange. The actual rate is more of a market thing than anything.

I don’t think there is a bank on the planet that wouldn’t charge some sort of fee for this. Unless you happen to be a VIP in that bank and they waive it for you

I am never charged anything at my business bank, a small regional bank, and I don't know that I would get charged at my personal bank either.

I have a customer who is in his late 40's and he had never left California until last year (he was probably 46 at the time).

California is also almost 3.5 times the size of England...

But it is much easier to get out of, and I almost never leave Northern CA, point being many people have their routine and commitments and don't have much opportunity to deviate from them.

England is incredibly easy to get out of. Just take the Eurotunnel and you're in France 25 minutes later.

That is exactly what i did.
I did change $20 USD into Euros for emergency cash and phone call, and rest was used with wells fargo debit visa card. They only charge 2% conversion fee.
