Ain't too proud to beg
Ever get a nice used car from a friend or relative? My mom got a 2008 Acura TSX for free from my bro'.
When I was in college my friend gave me his 3 y.o. Volvo for $1000 (drove it for another 8 yrs.). Here' something interesting....friend's brother traded his mint 2003 Maxima in for $800. I said let me give you $1000 for it and he said, nah. That would have been a perfect beater. I know he put 2k into it last year. Some folks won't help a brother out |

True I forgot to mention the Volvo I got for $1,000 was a 1946 and the fair market value was around $1,005. Back then $5 fed an entire family for 2-3 mos.....I remember it was almost an entire year's salary.

Technically He would have been around 2014 years old now. A bloody 1946 Volvo? A PV60 probably? My dad traded/bought a 1962/63 Jag MKII 3.4 with/from a friend for 5000 guilders back in '81, that's about 2200 euros. I did not have my licence back then(I was 11) He sold it , a tad rusty but mechanically fine(it's a UK car so you never know lol) a few years later for 'more than 5k guilders' as a recall. Car would have been worth now 15/20k euros .FWIW, and I know 5k guilders in '81/2.2k euros inflatory wise was also a lot of money. Cheers Robin |

Seriously even though I got shot down by my friend's brother (he's kind of insensitive, still lives at home and he's like 32), I would still ask someone I know if I can buy their old car, if I know the history/have ridden in it. One man's trash is another man's come up. His maxima is in perfect running shape, and he accepted $800 off the price of a new Mazda 3 for it. He just didn't want me to benefit from the repairs he made last year is the way I see it, because I would have given him $1k, which is over $100 more (sales tax on $800 is saved in the trade-in) |

Ain't too proud to beg, but there is no car to receive.
I wish I can beg to my mom for a Ferrari, Lamborghini, MP4/14c , or even a R8v10.
I just had a little discussion with my wife, and we might give my mom our MB W204. We do need a daily commuter vehicle, and we will just drive her 99 Avalon w/200k miles on it. |
